Interviews: The Larches

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Metal/Sludge Metal band, The Larches, from England (UK). Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it, or did it just come out like that?

The Larches is a street in TS6 near where Drummer George is from; he and Alfie used to go there to buy flowers.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Sludge metal allows us to bring all our influences together and pack them into one genre. We love playing at different tempos with down-tuned guitars and lyrics that allow us to discuss real-world themes with a dark edge, but can make light of such topics.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

George and Alfie have known each other for years, and they have both known Sonny for some time through the local scene. We all met up a few years ago at Gig School, which took place during the school holidays at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Sonny: Acid Bath

George: Acid Bath

Alfie: Summer Salt

Joel: Iron Monkey

Noah: Deftones

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Being able to put real-life topics into words and then into music is a big inspiration, along with the music we all listen to. When we get together, ideas seem to flow, and we are in a real purple patch at the moment, and we feel the next song is going to be better than the last.

6. Where was your last gig?

Think Tank? Newcastle Supporting theatre, Riding the Low & Big Iron, Met some great people & got loads of nice feedback from a crowd that was relatively new to us. Next Gig: Release Launch at Georgian in Stockton, England. 17th October

7. Where would you like to play?

Download Festival.

8. Who would you like to support?

Acid Bath, Mastodon, Deftones

9. Who not?

Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Snow Patrol. D4VD

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Sonny: Yes, no tips still shit scared!

George: All you gotta do is enjoy yourself and not think of the crowd + 2 Shots.

Joel: I just remember people are here to see us, so the margin for criticism must be pretty low

Noah: Yes, definitely, and I think it’s only normal when starting out, but playing more gigs helps you get a feel for things, and you will start to see familiar face,s making the stage fright deplete as your time on stage increases.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Eyehategod, Kyuss, Acid Bath,

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing too crazy as of yet, other than take our clothes off and sign parts of their anatomy.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Bunch of game bastards, we love them and can always rely on them to show up.

14. What do you think of our site?

Love the site, got a lot going on, something for everyone as long as they are metal, genres for dog and man, loads of reviews, playlists, merch, what more could we ask for.

15. Something to add?

Although we are all relatively young and are just making our way into the industry, we wanted to thank everyone who has given us support up to this point, whether is be our loyal fans who show up to every gig, our parents who have provided endless backing including lifts to practice, studio’s & gigs and our peers who give us honest feedback & guidance through what can be a minefield out there! We love you all.
