Interviews: Selfgod
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal/Black Metal band, Selfgod, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?
I had a song called that in my previous band Automb, so when we broke up and I needed a name, it made sense to use that, considering I started Selfgod completely on my own.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
Because extreme metal is what I’ve always played since I was a teenager. It’s the most undiluted, uncompromised metal.
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
The band is my solo project where I hire session musicians. I don’t have a consistent lineup. But yes, I knew most of the guys beforehand.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
No idea, but mine is probably KISS or Black Sabbath
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
At this point, it’s just me that inspires me to keep going and all the bands I grew up listening to. KISS, Van Halen, Sabbath/Ozzy, Motorhead
6. Where was your last gig?
New York City
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
Japan
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
Behemoth or Belphegor would be cool, considering we all play in a similar style and those bands influenced me a lot in my younger days.
9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
Like I said in the previous question, those bands would be cool.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
I’ve never had it, so not sure what to tell others. I feel more myself on stage than being in the crowd
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
As I said earlier, bands like KISS, Van Halen, Sabbath, and Motorhead. Will also add Slayer, Megadeth, Morbid Angel, Pantera, Mayhem, Cannibal Corpse, Dissection, Nile, etc.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Probably angrily asking me for drugs, haha. That happened in England once. Dude almost attacked us since we didn’t have any.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I love my fans, and a lot of them have become friends over the years. I’m forever grateful for any support they have given me.
14. What do you think of our site?
To be honest, I’ve never heard of it until today.
But seems to me you guys are very passionate about what you’re doing, and that’s always respectable.
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Our new album “Left Hand Pagan” comes out this Halloween. Pre-orders up through selfgod.bandcamp.co.m
Thank you for giving me your time of day, and thank you to all the readers and fans. Cheers!
