Interviews: Takipnik
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Metal band, Takipink, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?
The name Takipnk comes from the medical term Tachypnea, which means rapid, shallow breathing. I was dating a nurse at the time of trying to name the band, and she came up with the idea to use the name in adjective form, which is tachypneic. From there, we changed
the spelling and made it our own. It’s truly an odd and unique name. Some people can say it correctly on the first try, and others sound drunk and confused when attempting to pronounce it.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
Heavy music has always been part of my life. It just feels right, and the emotional intensity you can deliver with metal is incomparable to other genres in my opinion. It’s not the only genre I like, but it's my go-to genre. Metal is my psychiatrist that keeps
me balanced!
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
We met our current drummer, Brandon, after he responded to an online ad I posted looking for a new drummer, and our other guitarist is a longtime friend of his who later joined.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
Brandon: Deftones
Will: Wolfs in the Throne Room
Bobby: I have a hard time with favorites, so I’ll just list the last few records I listened to. Down on the Upside by Soundgarden, Snake Behind the Sun by Shy Low, and The Long Road North by Cult of Luna.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Inspiration to write songs can come from a variety of things, like a vocal idea, a riff, or just a sound I have in my head that I try to capture. Honestly, I have sounds running through my head all the time. The trick is trying to capture them. Also,
events that happen in my life will trigger a new song idea or at least give me the inspiration to write about it in some way. One thing I can say is it's either there or not. When I try to force a song, it just doesn’t work.
6. Where was your last gig?
HQ in Denver, Colorado, where we are based.
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
Red Rocks Amphitheater would be a dream!
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
Emma Ruth Rundle and Chelsea Wolfe
9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
Kris Kross
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
I think everybody gets it when they are first starting out, but the more you perform, the less you’ll feel nervous about it. Although I’ve read about some people never getting over it. I recently read that the only cure for anxiety is action, and I completely
agree with that. The less prepared you are, the more nervous you’ll be. Practice your ass off and you’ll own that stage like you belong there because at that point you do.
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
It’s a long and perhaps strange list, but off the top of my head it's Sepultura, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Neurosis, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Isis, Cult of Luna, The Beatles, Emma Ruth Rundle, Chelsea Wolfe, and Tool.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A drunk guy once asked us what our price for signing us was. He was about to fall over drunk and clearly wasn’t a record label owner.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I value anyone who cares about music and supporting artists. It’s a bonus when they care about our music specifically.
14. What do you think of our site?
Breathing the Core is a fantastic platform for new music as well as newer, upcoming artists. It serves as a central platform for any true music enthusiast to get firsthand knowledge of new releases while also getting to hear the artist's story behind the record.
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Anyone interested in buying our new record on vinyl can do so online through Bandcamp or our online store, which can be found through Spotify.
