Behind The Artworks: The Mendozaz - The Completely Fictional History Of This Great Nation Of Canada (2025)
The most important part of doing a concept record is having a strong vision and committing to it. When we decided we were going to do a collection of songs based on True Canadian Legends (that we totally made up) we wanted to tell the tale visually as much as through our music. We recruited Connor Johnstone (Quite Alright) out of Welland, Ontario to do our album art. We'd worked with him on previous albums Up And At Them and Loafers so we knew he had the dedication and skill to pull this thing off. Using his amazing powers of recollection, he was able to conjure and illustrate the 100% very true event of the great white sharks that burst through the ice and ate those 27 fishermen. He also was able to capture every last detail of the face of that crazy werewolf that rampaged London, Ontario using only the powers of the pen and his mind. We gathered some factual newspaper articles and Connor constructed the album cover that you see before you. As a bonus, we put a two-panel folding version inside the vinyl version so people can hang it on their wall as a poster, or keep it safely tucked inside the record jacket for later.
