Interviews: Boneyard
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Metal band, Boneyard, from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?
Boneyard used to be a cover band 10 years ago, before I joined, mainly playing songs from the XM Satellite Radio station called "Ozzy's Boneyard". That's where the name came from!
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I wasn't specifically looking to join a hard rock/metal band when I came across Boneyard two years ago - I was simply browsing "Bassists Wanted" ads in my city within a group of genres I was interested in. My wish was to find an established band that had at least one other female member, and I was impressed with what I heard! It seemed like an amazing opportunity to explore, and I was ever glad I did. We've accomplished a lot!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
For me - not one bit! I hadn't heard of Boneyard at the time, nor did I know of any of the members when I showed up for my audition. Pamtera and Jefftimus were married when they formed the band, and Garhardt was playing in a cover band with Jefftimus when he joined.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
There are multiple, but I'll pick one for everyone:
Pamtera: Annihilator
Jefftimus: Judas Priest
Garhardt: Blink 182
Lezzy: Lesbian Bed Death
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Pain and suffering.
6. Where was your last gig?
In our hometown here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, at North America's (second) largest mall.
7. Where would you like to act?
It would be a dream to play the Wacken Open Air heavy metal festival in Germany! I've never been to Europe, and Boneyard was selected last year to play in the Canadian Metal Battle for a chance to compete and win a slot. It was one of our most exciting shows!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Lesbian Bed Death - their satanic, goth, witchy, and queer vibes are right up my alley!
9. Whom not?
Any band that is disrespectful with a poor attitude.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Oh, yes. I'm new to performing publicly, so I don't have many years of experience rocking the stage, but for me, being confident comes from being adequately prepared. If I do my homework and get in my practice time well in advance, knowing the material inside and out so that it starts to become more muscle memory and less conscious thinking is a huge help. Do I still blank out and make mistakes? Absolutely. We all do. But a big part of the live experience is embracing the imperfections of being human. Remind yourself WHY you're going on stage in the first place - because you're doing what you love! Passion led you there. Just have fun and don't lose sight of that.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Growing up, it was mostly punk bands like Green Day, Gob, NOFX, and some metal like Disturbed. More recently, it would be all-female-fronted bands like The Warning and The Pretty Reckless.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
She asked if she could tattoo my autograph that I had just given her on her hip! I was surprised and amused by her question, so I told her it's her body and she can do what she wants, but to maybe rethink it in the morning! Hahaha.
13. What do you think of your fans?
I appreciate them immensely! Anyone who enjoys our creative endeavours is loved and appreciated. They encourage us to continue sharing our art with the world. Some even hilariously throw bras and panties at me!
14. What do you think of our site?
I could not read the logo if my life depended on it, haha. But I like what you're doing, and I think the "Countries" page is really cool, where you can filter by the bands' countries of origin. Nice touch!
15. Something to add?
We just released a western metal song and music video called Hanging Tree that you all MUST watch! We had a hell of a good time shooting it. I personally did the video editing and it's highly entertaining, funny, and professional. It's a real hoot!
