Interviews: Bonnie And The Jets
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Soul Rock band, Bonnie And The Jets, from Norway. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like
that?
Well, the name is obviously a wordplay on Elton John’s famous song Bennie and the Jets,
and it reflects our admiration for the music of the ’60s and ’70s. Since I’ve had Bonnie as a
nickname for a while, it felt natural to bring it into the band, as I get to play out my alter ego
as Bonnie on stage.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We ended up with a soul-rock sound because it blends the raw emotion of soul with the
energy and grit of rock. It lets us express deep feelings while still keeping that powerful drive
that gets people moving. It’s a genre that connects heart and rhythm, and that balance really
speaks to us.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, some of us were close friends prior to the foundation of the band.
4. Each band member’s favourite band?
Caroline “Bonnie” Bonnet (lead vocals & front woman): The Rolling Stones (hard to choose
one band)
Dagfin Hjorth Hovind (guitars): Deep Purple
Johanna Dahl Bryne (backing vocals): Queen
Haldor Haug Knutsen (bass guitar): Eagles
Kristian Wentzel (keys): Robert Glasper Exsperiment
Alf Magne Hillestad (drums): Queens Of The Stone Age
5. Who, or what, inspires you to write songs?
Everything in life, people, events, and places, inspires.. As well as emotions and experiences..
6. Where was your last gig?
We just came back from Dark Season Blues, Svalbard, where we did three shows! It was
awesome! It is the coolest festival ever; the world's northernmost blues festival.
7. Where would you like to perform?
It would be nice to do more festivals abroad, it would be a lot of fun playing in the US for
sure!
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Well, some of the members of one of our favorite bands would be a dream to
perform with!
9. Whom not?
Artists who use autotune.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat
that?
No, it has always felt natural for me to be on stage and perform, and for the rest of the
band, too. Thankfully, it hasn’t been an issue. I’m sure the best way to conquer stage fright is
to just “jump into it.”
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Deep Purple has for sure been a big influence,
especially for our guitarist, who also happens to be our producer. As well as classic rock
bands such as Led Zeppelin.. But also artists like Ray Charles, Bee Gees, Aretha Franklin,
Bob Dylan, Beatles stand high on our list as well..There are so many..!!
12. What ́s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Well, an autograph written on his
ass, but that's just funny!
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are the coolest ones around:)
14. What do you think of our site?
Looks like a cool place to find new music!
