Interviews: Nisti
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Synth Doom Metal band, Nisti, from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their INSTRAGRAM PROFILE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?
We were struggling for some time to find a band name, so in the beginning, we would just call ourselves DMS, which stood for Doom Metal Shit, until we could come up with something better. We definitely did not want that to be the name we would go on stage with.
Sep (guitars): I was deeply engaged with the work of an Iranian philosopher who has written about the concept of “Nisti”, which, for me, made sense at the time, and I could relate to it. Therefore, I suggested Nisti (meaning literal nothingness in Persian) as our band name, and my bandmates also thought that the name is a good fit for us. So we all collectively decided to go forward as Nisti.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We are all avid metal music listeners - however, coming from different genres, e.g., Arba (singer/synthist) likes a lot of noise music, extreme metal, as well as electronic music, Sep (guitars), modern metal, progressive metal, and the former drummer mainly thrash and death metal. For some reason, doom metal was the genre we felt we could combine our inspirations in and create something unique.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We had seen each other before in the music scene in Aachen; however, we were not that close at the time. It was after we founded the band that we became very close friends.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Such a difficult question. To pinpoint one band, however, we would say:
Arba - Converge
Sep - Vildhjarta
Raphael - Meshuggah
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We would say that each of us has their own process of creating music; however, in general, the creative process is usually based on personal conflicts, emotions, and inspiration we take from other forms of art. Sometimes we simply start jamming, and these narratives unfold during the jam, depending on how we feel that day. Other times, one of us has something prepared beforehand that we work on together.
6. Where was your last gig?
We played our single release show with Crouch in Musikbunker Aachen on the 21st of October 2025.
7. Where would you like to act?
Sep: Definitely in Iran. A lot of people would like to listen to this kind of music; however, due to the government, many people are not able to experience such concerts. Therefore, playing there is for me an emotional and political statement.
Arba: Roadburn.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Maybe a long shot, but we would love to feature with our favourite bands, such as Cult of Luna, Deafheaven, singer/songwriter Chelsea Wolfe, and artists in different genres, like electronic music, such as techno or dubstep.
9. Whom not?
Fascists
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Absolutely, we still do, and every gig is a challenge. The important part is to embrace the fright and try to cope with it as well as possible. We usually do some stretching, breathing exercises, and warmups beforehand; make sure you have enough water on stage and be aware and supportive of each other, especially if one of the members is struggling more. And generally, try to remember to have fun, and everyone makes mistakes, just handle them with grace.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Cult of Luna, especially the collaboration with Julie Christmas, Deafheaven, Converge, Oathbreaker, and The Body - a few we can mention right now.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We haven't really had any weird requests so far. Now and then, some strange comments, such as one person telling our singer that she has big teeth and gums when screaming.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Lovely, every single one of them. It is especially heart-warming to see that we have a lot of FLINTA+ fans and people with a migration background, and even more heart-warming when we hear that they have been inspired by us one way or another.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's cool that you work on supporting bands, and as a new band, we appreciate that in particular. We also got introduced to some nice bands through your site, so great job, keep going.
15. Something to add?
We are working on bringing out our EP “Lua Mater” by the beginning of next year, and we want to organise concerts; therefore, if you are a local band somewhere and are reading this interview, hit us up. And if you are a fan of our music, we would greatly appreciate it if you stay updated through our Instagram page: nistiband or linktr: https://linktr.ee/nisti_band.
