Interviews: Symphony Of Destiny
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Symphonic Metal band, Symphony Of Destiny, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just
happen organically?
The name Symphony of Destiny was established before we established the
current member lineup of the band, but after I wrote most of the current original
songs. This name was planned out through a series of analyses. I wanted a name
that was relevant to symphonic metal, and I wanted it to sound epic and
memorable. Symphony of Destiny seemed like an excellent fit for that, since it
had the profound mindset of music that accompanies your journey to follow your
dreams.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
I chose to play this genre because I loved the idea of writing and playing music
that had such a full sound to it. In some cases, it is not as technical as thrash or
death metal on the guitar (which is what I listened to and played previously). But
music that sounds more than just heavy, but expressive, epic, and cinematic, really speaks to me. When I got into Nightwish back in 2017, that was a turning
point in how I saw metal. Experiencing metal music that had a symphony in the
background with an opera singer was a whole new level of heavy to me, because
it contained elements that the standard 4-5 piece heavy metal band doesn’t offer.
With the extra layers in the music, it is far more immersive and takes you on a
journey, in my opinion.
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
I did not know any of the current members before forming the band. Our singer, Anne, and our drummer, Patrick, were both people I found out about through
mutual friends. Our keyboardist, Tom, reached out to me on BandMix after
listening to my demo for our original “Chariot of Ra” because of how unique and
immersive the symphonic aspect of the music was.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
Our guitarist, Wesley, has trouble deciding on a favorite band because they
keep changing. Usually, his favorites switch around between Testament,
Seven Spires, Eleine, Firewind, Joe Stump, and Nightwish. Tom’s favorite band is
the classic rock band Kansas. Anne’s favorite band is Goatwhore, among many
others. Patrick’s favorite bands are Dark Tranquility, Children of Bodom,
Vola, Alice in Chains, and Dream Theater.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I find life experiences and inspiration from some of my favorite bands to be my
inspiration behind writing the songs for Symphony of Destiny. I use inspiration
and concepts from a large number of bands to help shape the sound of
Symphony of Destiny. Our music has so many combinations of inspiration, there
is no single band we sound too close to, because there is no copy/paste, or any
chord progression template that I use for the songs. I just write what sounds
good, then check my work to make sure everything fits with the voice leading in
the symphonic elements, being strings and/or choir, to make sure everything
sounds the way I want it to. I have a music degree, which plays another big role
in my songwriting. With knowledge from school, I know how to pave the road for
songwriting from scratch.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at a venue in Richmond, Virginia called Fallout. Fallout is a goth
bar that also hosts live events like live music, dances, drag, karaoke, etc. We
played with 4 other talented bands, and had a great audience turnout. It was a
very fun night overall!
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
This is a loaded question, because there are a lot of great venues and events we
have not played at yet, since we have only been playing since March 2025!
Some venues I would like Symphony of Destiny to play at are Reclaim Arcade in
Fredericksburg, Virginia, Chapel Of Bones in Raleigh, North Carolina, MAGfest in
Northern Virginia, Mad With Power Festival in Wisconsin, Prog Power USA in
Atlanta, Georgia, Elevation 27 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, The Broadberry and
The National, which are both in Richmond, Virginia, MACRock Festival in
Northern Virginia, as well as many other places. These are all venues and events
we have not played at yet, but I would like to reach the point where we do play
shows/festivals at these places!
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
One band that I would love to collaborate with would be Edge of Paradise, because
they are great people, and we know each other a little. I attended a school called
RockNation, which is where Margarita gave vocal lessons. She was also a
substitute teacher for one of the bands I was paired up with. I also won a guitar
that was previously owned by Dave Bates, so I got that guitar signed by him
when I picked it up. I would also love to collaborate with Seven Spires, because
they are all down-to-earth, talented musicians. With their expertise from attending
Berklee College of Music in Boston and playing in metal bands over the past 10-
15 years, I know we would make great music collaborating together!
9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
I don’t have an answer to that question. Aside from some bands not being a good
fit with genre and style, I don’t have any negative views on any bands that would
cause me to specifically rule them out for collaboration.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for
beginners on overcoming it?
That is an excellent question! When I was younger and still new to playing guitar,
I did experience some stage fright because I didn’t have the confidence I do
now. A really good tip to help beginners overcome stage fright is to play at open
mics regularly! I did this with some solo electric guitar shred songs I composed at
open mics, which is something people at the open mics had never heard before, and it was good practice to play in front of people. After a while, it came
naturally to me to play in front of an audience because it was a hands-on
experience. Playing at open mics is a great level zero to start with, because
nobody cares if you mess up the song you are playing; it is not a professional
setting that puts pressure on you. On top of that, you do not need any credibility
whatsoever to get into your average open mic; open mics accept anyone!
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
The bands that influenced me the most are Nightwish, Eleine, and Seven Spires.
The reason behind each band was a combination of heavy inclusion of
symphonic elements in the songs. Not just background, but serving as a crucial
part of the song that is no exception. The other reason is the heavy, dark sound
from Eleine. Even though the band is super heavy-sounding, they still have their
singer, Madeleine, who does clean vocals alongside Rickard, who does the harsh
vocals. That opened my eyes that a band can sound great with clean vocals and
heavy guitars and drums behind that. These concepts inspired the sound of
Symphony of Destiny.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
As far as I recall, I do not have the pleasure of any fans giving us weird requests.
I know this will happen sooner or later; it is just a matter of time!
13. What do you think of your fans?
I think our fans are the very foundation of what we do. They are the reason why
we keep doing what we love, and the reason why we want to keep moving
forward in our journey by continuing to grow, push out new music, and play at
new venues/events! Fans are the lifeline of any band, and I am thankful for every
single one of them!
14. What do you think of our site?
I think your site looks great! The first thing I noticed, checking it out on my PC, is
that my mouse cursor turned into the metal horns! I like how the articles are laid
out on the website. There are the latest articles and interviews, and there are also
some popular interviews listed on the side. I like how there is a wide variety
of topics that are covered on the site that talk as individual songs, the artwork,
behind the music, behind the scenes, reviewing a full album, reviews on track-by-track from an album, a spotlight section for new bands on the website, etc. I also
like how there is a ‘New Compilation’ playlist right on the site that anyone viewing
the site can reference. I think that is great advertising for the bands that got
featured!
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
If there is anything else I would like to add, it would be a shoutout/reminder that
our debut single will be released on November 29th on all platforms! We have 2
more releases in the works that will take place after our debut single, “Exile of
Horus”, so we would like everyone to keep an eye out for that! All else aside, we
are thankful for the opportunity to share our thoughts, advice, and experiences
with Breathing The Core! We are looking forward to doing this again!
