Track By Tracks: Now I've Done It - An Ill Guest (2025)

1. Disillusion:

This was one of the last tracks we wrote for the album. We hoped this track would serve as a “vibe-setter,” instead of a sonic template. It introduces the main theme, which reoccurs as a motif throughout the album. Fun fact: the guitar track around the 5:30 mark is a scratch track of Peter learning how to play the riff by ear. We think the raw messiness added to the atmosphere of that section.

2. Dilly-Dally:

Our first single, and the first song we ever wrote together for this project. The bridge features Peter on a balalaika, playing a melody that references the fourth track on the album, Ruffled.

3. Offering:

This is another of the original three songs we wrote. Initially, this had a completely different bridge section. Near the end of production, we outgrew it and ended up recording a totally new section with totally different instruments and production. We lovingly refer to this bridge as the “side-quest,” which also foreshadows track nine.

4. Ruffled:

This is the first interlude of the album, which we included to attempt to give the listener a break. The main guitar part was written and performed by Dan, with accompaniment by Peter.

5. Panache:

This is both a fan favorite and a band favorite to perform. It features Tyler Fedeli, lead singer of Lör, on trumpets, and the only Trve guitar solo on the album. It has a rare Dan vocal appearance and is probably the most straightforward track on the album

6. Collywobbles:

Probably the most divisive song amongst the bandmates. The drum part for the verses came from Peter’s request to have something that feels “both double-time and half-time… at the same time.” The main motif reappears in this track, and the band's codename for this track is “Elton John Breakdown.”

7. Muddled:

A thematic foley interlude. We positioned this track to give some reprieve from the previous track. The piano references the main motif, while the guitars perform a modal transposition of track ten’s intro melody.

8. Splinter:

This is the last of the three original songs we wrote. This was an old fan-favorite live song. It features Peter crumbling paper into a microphone, and also bits and pieces of a song that would end up cut out of the album.

9. Jim-Jams:

This track was born out of the question, “What if disco was in 5?” This one is a favorite of the band to perform. The music video for this track was made almost entirely in PowerPoint - a ridiculous challenge we set for ourselves for no reason other than it sounded funny. Fun fact: the intro to this song was written from an improvised jam.

10. Kindling:

Among other things, this track was born out of a deep desire to make locrian work (only remnants of that attempt remain). Our early ska influences sneak in the most in this track. We wanted to make sure that the final track ties together the main motif, which appears in its most bombastic fashion at the end of the track. For a period of time, Dan had this track on the chopping block, but it ended up his favorite on the album.
