Behind The Tracks: Dead Fish Handshake - Traveling At The Speed Of Life (Single) (2025)

Vito Rauseo Jr - Guitars: I come from a musical family, and someone I know in Europe is a DJ. We were talking about what makes a song reverberate. We were going back and forth with all sorts of genres - rock, dance, electronica. I showed him something when he was visiting, and he asked me for a skeleton of that idea. I sent him the idea, and the interesting part is that there's actually a Traveling at the Speed of Life Pt 2. What became this song was a different variation. It all stemmed from the idea of creating an electronic-based song where he was going to take my composition, then DJ it up, if you will. What was set in motion at first is not the same riff/idea as what actually became Traveling. It spawned from it. Matthew Paul - Vocals: We're living in the post-grunge world, and Vito brought some new elements. One being danceability through an appreciation for DJing and electronic music.

This solo is one of the best on the record. It's important that this is the first song people hear from this upcoming album. With a new guitar player like Vito, it's debuting him. Fans are expecting to hear Rob, and there's plenty of great Rob moments, but this is really a great introduction to Vito.

I also don't sing in a lot of falsetto - my first note in this song is falsetto, so that might surprise some people. I'm very proud of the risks we took on this album musically and vocally.

Rob Ferreira - Guitars: We're all a product of multiple genres, so we took that idea and engaged with that through danceability. Rather than pick up a million synths, we asked ourselves what type of music we grew up on that would have that element and how it would translate from synth to electric guitar. Once upon a time, that would've been a no-no, and we could have had an identity crisis about it. But we're music fans, not just rock fan,s and we're not alone in that.
