Behind The Tracks: Symphonies Of Decay - The Portal (Single) (2025)

"The Portal" is a chapter of a longer story, a concept based on the passion we all share for the science fiction narrative, concerning a pessimistic vision of the scientific progress.

 

The key behind the lyrics is that the blackholes are portals to nowhere but, although we could mean it as a link with a reality beyond our imagination, that link is just a way to reach destruction under the banner of the knowledge. In a metaphorical way, "The Portal" is a criticism of the trend to reach the things that lie beyond our sight without taking care of what we left behind.

 

All the tracks that compose the EP "Sagittarius A" are parts of that concept and describe, in a direct way or through the means of metaphors, different sections of that process.

 

Regarding the music, we tried to start with a moment of “serenity” that soon evolves in a twist of chaos and up tempos representing the passage through the Hole and its aftermath. For the chorus we chose the clean vocals that underline the gothic influences we have, although the core of the structure is a classic melodic death pattern that we inherited from our “ancestors” - In Flames and Dark Tranquillity.
