Interviews About Albums: Engrupid Pipol - Quadragenta At Finem Mundi (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Chilean Progressive Metal band, Engrupid Pipol, to ask questions about their album "Quadragenta At Finem Mundi"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Quadragenta at Finem Mundi is Engrupid Pipol's third studio album and their first conceptual album. It consists of seven instrumental prog metal songs or “acts” that recount the end of our days as a civilization in a modern apocalypse. The recording and post-production of the album was financed almost entirely by a cultural fund from the Chilean government, which allowed us to access an international-level recording studio for the first time, finally achieving the superpower trio sound we had been looking for in our previous albums. Quadragenta at Finem Mundi is an instrumental prog metal album that does not follow the current model of modern metal composition. We could say that it does not belong to the mainstream of instrumental metal. Our musical proposal, beyond its conceptual nature, gives us different soundscapes influenced by classic metal and classic progressive rock, fused with elements of the cultures of the indigenous peoples of Latin America, mixed in the blender of Engrupid Pipol. The album is a complete, mind-blowing, unexpected journey. Music from our guts and heart, which never ceases to surprise song after song, elegantly mixing different musical elements and styles that reflect the musical maturity of this power trio and 25 years of making music together.

The album is available to stream on all digital platforms and already has a promotional single, Tripel Ultimatum, the opening track on the album, with a video clip available on YouTube. It tells the story of three survivors of a thermonuclear war and their last days before the end of time and the universal reset.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Our concept for the album is the story of the end of days in a modern version of the apocalypse. Perhaps the logical thing would have been to use the name of one of the songs, but we found that boring and uncreative, so we decided to name the album with a title that encompassed the entire concept of the work. That's how the title “Quadragenta at Finem Mundi” came about, a name that comes from Latin but has been modified to our liking. We could say it's a title in “Engrupid Latin,” and can be translated as “forty till the end of the world” in relation to the first six songs on the album, which last approximately 40 minutes. The last song, Ameba Emenens, is an acoustic guitar solo track that speaks of a new beginning after the final reset, which is why it does not count towards the title.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

All three members of the band are composers. Each member's contribution to the different albums has varied depending on the album. In the case of our latest album, Quadragenta at Finem Mundi, the composition was more balanced than ever, as each of us composed two songs, and one song is a composition by all three of us. However, the songs are always tweaked by each member of the band, who adds their own interpretation and musical elements specific to their instrument, enriching the original composition. We also discuss arrangements or add ideas that come up during rehearsals, or when recording and listening to the demos we make of our songs.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

It's a difficult question, because I find that each song is a world unto itself, and I like them all almost equally. However, I think Tripel Ultimatum and Voragine are two songs that people should not miss for any reason, as the first is a more classic metal song, so to speak, with exquisite riffs and melodies that will stay in your brain, and the second is a song that is influenced by our culture, more progressive and with original soundscapes that never cease to amaze.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

Quadragenta at Finem Mundi is a conceptual album that tells the story of a modern apocalypse. The band's music is instrumental, so the message of each song is encoded in its title. For example, Animal Inteligenz refers to the misuse of artificial intelligence, Inspireichon Burn refers to a greedy elite that leads us to nuclear war, Vairal Madness refers to the madness of pretending and virilizing content on social media and the forms of control that are exercised through them, and Voragine refers to the predatory consumer society and fast-paced life without pause. The album itself is a critique and reflection of the current illness of our society, which, in ignorance and without stopping, is moving towards an uncertain, totalitarian future, heavily monitored and controlled by a few. A bleak picture, where the development of the whole being has become indispensable, and we will soon be a number within the machinery before its self-extinction.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Our music is instrumental, so the titles of the lyrics are our lyrics. Here are the “7 acts” of our new album:

Tripel Ultimatum
Voragine
Animal Inteligenz
Inspireichon Burn
Vairal Madness
Aztral Configureited
Ameba Emenens

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

The inspiration for our compositions rarely has a rational origin. We compose from our souls, guts, and hearts. Music is our vehicle for connecting with the message of our unconscious, and it is mostly inspired by our personal experiences as musicians, as a band, and as individuals. These are expressed through our instruments, giving rise to the particular, groovy sound of Engrupid Pipol. Of course, we would like to thank everyone who has supported us over these 25 years of making music together, our families, friends, and fans of the band who have always been there, and the technical team that has accompanied us in the realization of our projects.

8. Something to add?

I would just like to invite everyone reading this interview to listen to our new album, follow Engrupid Pipol on social media and streaming platforms, and if you really like what you hear, spread the word among your friends about our Engrupid music made with all the power from the southern hemisphere for you!
