Interviews: BIANCA
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal project, BIANCA, from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or come out like
that?
"BIANCA" feels like an ancient word, and it means ‘white’ in Italian, which is also the most
haunting colour. White is the light, and we chose it as a stark contrast to the imagery usually
associated with black metal, but only apparently in contradiction with it. It is the other side
of the same thing. BIANCA evokes luminosity, the stimulus where reaction starts, the blank
turning into infinite potential. This name for the band wasn’t planned; it revealed itself as
the right vessel for what we wanted to convey.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Black metal gives us a language of fire, resistance, transformation, and raw emotion. It’s
more than music; it’s an act of defiance against numbness and conformity. Through it, we
explore both the ethereal and the visceral sides of existence.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes. In one way or another, our paths had crossed long before BIANCA took shape. There
was a shared sensitivity and vision that naturally drew us together even before we realised
it would become a band.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
We answer collectively, because our influences blend into a single shared vision. Above
all, Dead Can Dance remains our deepest source of inspiration, for its numinous
resonance and emotional vastness. Watain and Deathspell Omega also stand at the core
of our collective DNA, shaping us with their intensity and uncompromising artistic identity.
Around these pillars orbit many others: Emperor, Chelsea Wolfe, Wardruna, Blut Aus Nord,
Wolves in the Throne Room, Akhlys and Aghast. Vocally, artists such as Björk, Anneke
Van Giersbergen, Aurora, Ihsahn and Cristina Scabbia have left a lasting mark. We don’t
separate genres; we let contrasts merge until they feel like our own.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Real life and deep reflection about moments of transition: from day to night, from
awakeness to dream state, from existence to death and back again. Emotion always leads
our music. We write about those in-between states where meaning is constantly shifting
and taking shape.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our first album was released via Avantagarde Music just recently, and we’re planning the
first dates to bring our music to a live dimension.
7. Where would you like to act?
There are so many great festivals and beautiful venues out there. We would be honoured
to play in places that breathe atmosphere. The setting, and above all, the people, become
part of the ritual. It’s never just about the stage, but the entire experience.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Artists who embody transformation and authenticity: Lili Refrain or Shores of Null,
speaking of Italian artists with whom we find something in common. In the black metal
scene, we’d say Panzerfaust, Akhlys, Enslaved and oh… Gaerea are one of our favourite
bands ever. Collaborations make sense when souls resonate on the same wavelength and
not just a matter of sounds.
9. Whom not?
Anyone who treats Music as a product rather than a living, breathing process. We need
truth and honesty, not calculation or mere profit.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to
beat that?
Emotion is part of every performance; fear shouldn’t be. Sure, we always want to give our
best, and sometimes the stage logistics can be complicated, but it's necessary to overcome
it and put the music and its content at the centre. It’s not about performance, but sharing
sounds and feelings with people, that’s why we prefer to call our shows “passages”.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For this album in particular, Emperor, Blut Aus Nord, Akhlys, Aghast, Chelsea Wolfe,
Watain and Deathspell Omega have been central influences. Each of them explores
darkness as a fertile space for creation where emotion, mysticism, and inner landscapes
take shape. From Emperor’s sense of grandeur to Blut Aus Nord’s dissonant visions, from
Akhlys’ dreamlike thresholds to Aghast’s spectral minimalism, from Deathspell Omega’s
esoteric intensity to Chelsea Wolfe’s blend of vulnerability and weight, these voices have
shaped a language that feels deeply personal and transformative.
12. What do you think of your fans?
They too can become somehow part of BIANCA. Once the music “comes out”, it no longer
belongs only to us; it evolves through the emotions and interpretations of those who listen.
That connection gives BIANCA life.
13. What do you think of our site?
It’s inspiring to see platforms dedicated to giving visibility to underground and evolving
artists. You build bridges between worlds, and we deeply appreciate that.
15. Something to add?
This is only the beginning for us. BIANCA is alive now, and we hope to grow and transform
with every encounter on our path. We invite everyone to step through the portal with us, to
listen, to feel, and perhaps to change, even if only for a moment.
Thank you, Breathing the Core, for the space and support. Until next time, may our paths
cross again.
