Interviews: Breathe In

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band, Breathe In, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out like that?

So Paul was the one who actually came up with the band name. He was inspired by the intro to a Moonspell song and then made a logo that he sent to Brian and Rob.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I always loved heavy technical music as a kid, and as I got older, I experimented with different genres. Getting a crowd going with high-energy music always feels good, knowing everyone is having fun.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

So I never met Paul prior to joining Breathe In. I’ve watched Rob play once for his old band, Echo Black, before, but we never formally met until 2024. I knew of Brian from his old band SKIVER, and we eventually became online friends. I’ve known Shola since 2010 because he was in a band with my brother called Sol Ardour, which I eventually joined. I would join him in his solo project as a writer and guitarist.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

There are definitely lists for everyone. Shola is Gackt, Linkin Park, Bad Omens, The Gazette and a bunch of other Jrock bands. Rob is a hardcore and punk guy, so his list can vary. A Day to Remember & Kaonashi are probably on them. Paul is Sabaton, Iron Maiden, and leans towards the power metal side. Brian is definitely a Black Veil Brides, Escape the Fate, Nocturnal Bloodlust, and other high-energy shreddy bands.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I either write in a really emotional state or write with nothing in mind. Sometimes, when I listen to songs I’m currently hooked on, I try to encapsulate that same feeling I get when listening to those songs.

6. Where was your last gig?

Breathe In’s last gig was a house show for our photographer, Flores. It was his birthday, and it ended up raining. No one was able to see anything, but we somehow made it work. For me, I’ll probably be playing a show whenever this interview comes out, or the same weekend it drops.

7. Where would you like to act?

In terms of a bigger venue, I’d say Starland Ballroom. I’m not really picky. I like playing close and intimate shows as well as larger shows.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

No one specific comes to mind, honestly. I'd love to write music for any type of film, show, or anime.

9. Whom not?

Just be a good person, and I’ll probably work with you lol

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yeah, most of my life I have. If you ever feel scared, just remember that most performers are usually just as scared. You have to take deep breaths and tell yourself you know what to do and what to play. It’s kind of a practice itself. You either live the dream in fear or question if you should’ve tried in the first place.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I listen to a lot of different music depending on my mood. What comes to mind is Polyphia, MCR, Panic at the Disco, Periphery, Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy soundtracks on the compositional side for sure. I think listening to music in terms of emotions and feelings can be different. MCR again, Deftones, The Maria’s, Steve Lacy, Tyler, The Creator, Daniel Caesar. Current jams are Silverstein, Citizen, Wisp, and other stuff in that realm.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Ask Shola, haha.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Beyond grateful and appreciative of them. To take the time out of your day to listen to our art means a lot to me. Thank you. I hope to make a difference in their lives someday.

14. What do you think of our site?

The merch looks great, and the website is very organised. The diversity in the sub-genres is great cause it can range from Egyptian metal to Warhammer 40k metal. I also love that all the artists are from different countries. I think what you guys are doing is great for artists to be heard and seen.

15. Something to add?

Always be a student and humble. If you’re scared to do anything, that’s okay. You’re not alone. Sometimes fear brings us closer to who we are and what we want to do. Believe in yourself because someone out there will believe in you, too.
