Interviews: Let Them Feel
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore/Hardcore Punk band, Let Them Feel, from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it or came out like that?
The band name was one of the last things we thought about. We actually had all our tracks ready to record without having a band name. The four of us wrote down a few ideas, probably around thirty, and “Let Them Feel” seemed to really fit our music.
It’s like a mix between something quite authoritarian and something more sensitive. It’s also a name that directly addresses the audience, like “hey, this is us, welcome to our world, feel it as you like.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
It’s been a while since we’ve played this kind of music in our previous projects, somewhere between metal and punk, I would say.
If we had to put a tag on the genre we’re playing, it would be post-hardcore / punk-hardcore.
The four of us started playing music on guitar as teenagers. It’s a genre we’ve always played and listened to. It’s part of who we are.
We love the strength and diversity of this music; it allows us to express our most intimate and fragile feelings as well as the most enraging and visceral ones. We expressed it the best as we could in “Do Not Let Him Down”, the 1st track of our upcoming EP :
It has always felt natural to write brutal and dissonant parts, but also more melodic and mesmerising moments.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Heddy (scream/guitar) and Benoît (vocal/drums) are old-time friends, and Antoine (bass) is Benoît’s little brother.
We all met Yvan (guitar) a few years ag,o thanks to friends in common.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Heddy: Of all time, Sum 41, but recently I fell in love with Vianova.
Benoit: Could be Vulfpeck, could be Birds in Row. Huge fan of what Loathe is doing as well.
Yvan: Depends on the day, but probably Bent Knee or Cardiacs today.
Antoine: Russian Circles is a big inspiration to me, as well as Birds in Row.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Anger!
But not only that, but it’s also a mix of personal stories and social/ethical statements.
Some of the tracks are reflections on our mental health; we talk about depression, love with a capital L, and understanding ourselves. This is quite the topic of “Do Not Let Him Down”, where the importance of our inner children is also central.
In future songs, we observe the failures of our Western society and the urge to bond with one another.
6. Where was your last gig?
We’re just getting started. We released our first single on November 23rd, so we haven’t played any gigs yet, but we’re really excited to share our music live!
7. Where would you like to act?
Since we haven’t played any shows yet, we would first love to perform in our hometown, Paris, sharing this moment with our people.
Next, we want to play as much as we can across France. And then, hopefully, we would love to tour in other countries.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
If Bart from Birds in Row is reading this, we’d be thrilled to have your voice on our next EP!
9. Whom not?
We would definitely be careful about never having someone praising any kind of discrimination or someone who has been found guilty of abuse toward anything alive.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Yvan had terrible stage fright when he was younger, and Benoît experienced intense stage fright before solo gigs. “It’s always easier to overcome when you’re part of a team!”
We think the best way to avoid stage fright is to be as prepared as possible and to get on stage as often as you can.
Also, remember that you will die, and one day, no one will remember you.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Those are probably the directions we wanted the band to sound like when we wrote the EP: Birds in Row, Underoath, and Every Time I Die. But every band member listens to so many different things, from prog to hip-hop and electronic music, so it’s hard to say which band has had the biggest influence on what we do.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
So far, nothing strange — the band has only been on the internet for two weeks. Just love!
13. What do you think of your fans?
We weren’t expecting this much support and enthusiasm from people. They’re amazing — we can’t wait to meet them live!
14. What do you think of our site?
The whole purpose of a band in the end is to find and connect with its audience, and you help a lot with this, so thank you so much for what you do!
15. Something to add?
We’d like to thank Nico from Rise Booking Agency for helping us promote the band and find cool media for you to share more about Let Them Feel.
