Interviews: Relentless Aggression
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal band, Relentless Aggression, from Norway. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just
happen organically?
Me (Finn) and Yngve were looking for a band name that would describe the music.
We each had a couple of suggestions, and we landed on Relentless Aggression. One
of us had the word “Relentless”, the other one “Aggression”. A match made in hell, he
he.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
I grew up with thrash metal in the 80s. I first heard Metallica in 83 and was hooked
immediately. It's something with the speed and energy of the music that's irresistible!
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
Yngve and I grew up in the same neighborhood, so we knew each other before we
started the band. Dag (the first bass player) went to the same high school as me, and
since he was a metalhead, I got to know him. Erik (the first drummer) hung out with the
same people as me.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
We both love a lot of the classic first thrash bands: Metallica (first three albums),
Slayer, Vio-Lence, Exodus, Dark Angel, Artillery, Destruction ... This list could be very
long!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Anything can inspire me to write a riff. Sometimes an idea comes into my head, and I
record it on my mobile phone. Most often, I just sit in front of the TV and play, and
some riffs pop into my head. When it comes to writing the lyrics, that’s Yngve’s
territory. He has a dark mind, and there’s no lack of inspiration in this sick world we
live in!
6. Where was your last gig?
We haven’t played many gigs since we’re just me and Yngve in the band. We played at a birthday party some years ago, and some friends helped us out to get a full line-up.
It would be cool to do some concerts, but we need to get a solid live drummer first.
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
If we get a solid live line-up, I could play anywhere.
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
We just released a song with guest vocals from Invisus from the local black metal band
Blodhemn. I'm really happy with how that turned out. If I could choose without any
regard to reality, I would go for Dave Lombardo, Tom Hunting, or Gene Hoglan
playing the drums on a song or two!
9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
Yes, but I try to focus on the positive side of things. Life is short, and I want to get the
most out of Relentless Aggression as possible
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips
for beginners on overcoming it?
The first time I played live, I was nervous for a week in advance. I guess constant
practicing is the answer to get rid of the nerves. And playing live as much as
possible! Stay away from too much alcohol when you play live. You might think you
sound better, but that's probably just in your own head. A bit of nerves before a gig is
good; it keeps you focused.
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
I guess I have to say Metallica, since they opened the world of thrash to me. But that
was a long time ago, now I love music in different genres. Thrash metal,
death metal, black metal, hardcore, grindcore, etc
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I can’t really remember any weird stuff at the moment.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We have too few, he he. It's always cool to have someone like your music. I'm a big
music fan myself, and I love to go to gigs and chat with music-interested people. I
also reach out on social media to my favorite bands. In general, I live for music!
14. What do you think of our site?
Looks like you people know what you are doing. I guess you guys are also music
lovers. Keep up the good work!
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for getting in touch with us. Check out our new song “Mindbolted” and
remember - Music is the spice of life!
