Behind The Tracks: Asylum Road - Cut To The Bone (Single) (2026)

The song itself stemmed from a rough recording that Paul had written called "Throne of Bones". At that stage he basically just had the bare bones (no pun intended) of a few riffs until him and Brian sat down to iron out the kinks and work on transitions and new riffs to flesh it out. Eithan, Paul, and Brian then sat down and discussed how the drums should go. We decided that for this type of song that the drums should follow the structure and simplicity of the main riff to really accentuate it, so that no aspect of the track was overshadowed by another.

After we got the track finalised, Darryn sat with it and worked out the lyrical theme that he wanted. He took the working title of Throne of Bones and reworked that. The lyrics are about opression, how we suffer at the hands of those in power and struggle day to day to make ends meet and get by whilst they're sit on top of us on their "throne of bones".

Despite changing the name, Darryn paid tribute to Paul's original idea by including the words "throne of bones in the lyrics". He tried a fresh vocal approach in this song, particularly at the end. The final scream of the word "cut" is massively influenced by the late Chuck Schuldiner of Death.

As for the artwork, we have a running joke in the band that Brian is obsessed with frogs and when discussing potential artwork after the lyrics were finished, he mentioned that we should have a frog on an operating table being poked and prodded at by men in suits. Paul took the idea literally and did a mock up. The rest of us didn't have much a say after that, Brian and was sold and the final artwork was settled on
