Interviews: Baïonette

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Chaotic Hardcore band, Baïonette, from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Planned or just popped out?

Honestly, I don’t really remember. It probably came up during the first rehearsals. The name is simple and French, which we liked. What makes it work for us is the meaning: it’s the last resort, the moment when you’re out of ammo, and there’s nothing left but close combat. No escape, no plan B. That pretty much defines the band’s mindset.

2. Why this genre?

We’ve always played aggressive music, but this time we wanted to get back to the core—what made these genres powerful in the first place. Raw, uncontrolled energy and a complete rejection of comfort and conventions. No polish, no compromise, just intensity.

3. Did you know each other before forming the band?

Yes. We’ve known each other for years, both as friends and as musicians. We toured together with our previous bands throughout the 2010s, so there’s already a shared history, trust, and a common language. This band didn’t come out of nowhere—it’s the result of that long road.

4. Favourite bands of each member?

Speaking for myself: Converge for the violence and tension, Cult of Luna for their atmosphere and crushing weight, and The Chariot for their total loss of control and raw, physical way of performing. And since Flo is not available to answer the interview, I’ll just throw in his guilty pleasure bands: Blink 182, Daddy Yankee, and the Spice Girls.

5. Who or what inspires your songwriting?

We try to stay as direct as possible. The song dictates the next move. It’s instinctive writing—riff answers riff, rhythm drives the body. Physical reaction matters a lot. If it hits immediately, we keep it. If it doesn’t, it’s gone. No overthinking, no nostalgia.

6. Where was your last gig?

We haven’t played live yet. The project is extremely new. But we’re already focused on the first show—that moment where everything becomes real.

7. Where would you like to play?

Anywhere. But especially in places where you’re not supposed to play. Tight rooms, uncomfortable spaces, locations that add tension instead of comfort. That’s where this music makes sense.

8. Who would you like to feature with?

Someone who is intense enough to commit fully. An artist who’s not afraid to lose control and push the project into darker, more extreme territory.

9. Who is definitely not?

Anyone who fits even one of these: racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, fascist, imperialist, etc. No exceptions.

10. Stage fright? Tips for beginners?

I’ve never really dealt with stage fright. What helps is understanding the space before going on stage, then switching mindset completely. Once I step up, it’s not daily life anymore—it’s the version of me that belongs on stage.

11. Most inspiring bands?

Similar to the above, but for the writing of this first EP, we were heavily influenced by bands like Trap Them, Norma Jean, Knocked Loose, Predatory Void, Hierophant, and others that keep things raw, violent, and uncompromising.
