Interviews: Obey The Sun
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Grunge/Metal band, Obey The Sun, from Hungary. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out like that?
Tamás: Out of two band names, one was already taken, so we went with Obey the Sun.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Tamás: This genre represents the mix of 4 individual souls. I just love the unique style that emerges when we start to do our magic.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Tamás: Geri, Krisz, and Peti already knew each other; I was the missing link.
Krisz: Peter found me via the Internet when he was looking for bandmates for a new band. I invited Geri, who was my bandmate in a metalcore band called Drawback.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Krisz: Down, Deftones, Soilwork
Peti: Pantera, Crowbar, Deftones, Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Fu Manchu
Geri: Alice in Chains, RATM, Therapy?, Faith No More
Tamás: Villagers of Ioannina City, Opeth, Mercenary, Unto Others, Iced Earth
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Tamás: We jam some riffs, record the jam on rehearsal, detail it at home, then repeat the process until the song is ready.
Krisz: As you can see, we all grew up on a wide range of different music, and obviously, those influences inspire us, often on a subconscious level as well.
Usually, Peti brings in the initial ideas, and from there, we start shaping them together, with everyone adding their own personality and ideas.
6. Where was your last gig?
Tamás: Last gig was Monsters of Mór.
7. Where would you like to act?
Tamás: On a big stage in front of thousands of fans, chanting "OBEY THE SUN!".
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Tamás: With any of our favourite bands.
9. Whom not?
Tamás: Mumble rappers, pop bands :D
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Tamás: I think this is a normal part of being a performing musician. If you say you have zero stage fright before a gig, then you are either lying or you just don't care about the gig.
One tip for beginners: Just go with the flow and trust the process. Focus on the music and forget your ego; let the music and performance take over.
Peti: For me, stage fright shows up in a pretty strange way. I start yawning and feeling sleepy.
Then we get on stage, I do a quick guitar soundcheck, and if everything’s fine, we look at each other.
Once everyone’s ready, the show can start for me.
The nervousness fades away and gets replaced by a shared flow—on stage between us, and toward the crowd as well.
I never drink more than one beer before a show. I stick to that rule strictly. Otherwise… pfuu… haha.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Tamás: The bands that have or had a clear, unique style and vision and had the courage to stay true to themselves!
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Tamás: Well, it wasn't really weird to sign boobies after a show :D
13. What do you think of your fans?
Tamás: They just love our music!
14. What do you think of our site?
Tamás: Very structured and clear, good articles!
15. Something to add?
Tamás: Thanks for the interview!
