Interviews: Ravenmocker
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal band Ravenmocker from the USA. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?
I was doing a tour in early 2025 when the name came to me. I was looking up Native American lore and found the lore of the Raven Mocker. It’s truly fascinating stuff to read - I really felt like the tales could be a great idea for graphics and videos, and songwriting. I shortened it to one word to kind of stand out from the other song titles and lore and stuff to keep the name, but just make our band a little easier to find.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Melodic death metal has always been my favorite genre of music. I played drums to it for so many years, but it was only within the last, probably about 5 years, where I started trying to write stuff of my own. It just scratches an itch that most other genres can’t. A good melody in a metal song just can’t be understated.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yeah, we all knew each other. I’d filled in for Will’s band Anubis once, and Dylan actually built me a drum rack for the tour I just mentioned prior. George and I have been friends for almost the entire ten years I’ve been in California. It’s a big scene, but when you hang with the right people, it gets tight, so when I was thinking of members, they were pretty easy phone calls to make.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Tom - Children Of Bodom
Dylan - Evergray
Will - Symphony X
George - Blackhawk
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Usually real life is a great place to start when I’m writing. But like I said, the Raven Mocker has been making some amazing material. There’s so much rich history in Native American culture, and I feel like, as a Native myself, I’d be doing a disservice to not only myself but the entire Native community if I didn’t try to share some piece of what I’ve been learning about the lore and culture over the last few years.
6. Where was your last gig?
We’ve actually never played a show yet, but locally, 1720 Warehouse, Regent Theater, Belasco…obviously, that’s down the road, but I do love those venues
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We haven’t really thought of collaborations yet, but we’re open to any and all artists who connect with our music like we do. We can’t wait to see where that avenue takes us
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Truthfully, going from drums to guitar and vocals after almost 20 years is pretty nerve-racking. I’ll let you know once I get up there how I beat it, but my only sure-fire solution is to know what you’re playing like you know how to breathe. Be so comfortable with your set that you could play it in your slee,p and then at the very least, you’ll put on a good set, if nothing else, musically.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Children of Bodom has been my absolute most influential band. They changed my life from the moment I saw them for the first time in NYC in 2008. I knew I wanted to do something in that vein, but I just didn’t think I’d ever be able to.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I definitely don’t have an answer for this yet; check back in a year or so, hahah.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are everything; they keep us going and make us want to work that much harder. When you make something that means that much to someone else, that’s a feeling you can’t put any sort of currency on. We’re so grateful for them.
14. What do you think of our site?
Congratulations on a wonderful site - keep spreading the good word of the new bands out there!
15. Something to add?
Thank you for taking the time to learn about and listen to us! We can’t wait to see you out in the venues!
