Interviews: Slowrepeat
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Stoner Metal/Doom Metal band, Slowrepeat, from Israel. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?
The name came about when I recorded the first-ever track of the
project. The track was slow and repetitive, so I saved it as a file
under the name Slow Repeat. When I uploaded it to YouTube, I
didn't want it to be under my name, "Ben Solomon," so I decided to
call the project "SlowRepeaT," and I changed the name of the track
to "A Maze of Thoughts," and since then, that's been our name.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
It happened to me naturally. Over the years, I listened to and
collected a lot of music, played many styles of rock and metal, and
even experimented with electronic music. None of what I created
became anything serious, and it even bored me. But it was
precisely in heavy, low-end music that I found the interest and
desire to create and develop musically.
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
I knew Yotam before; he is a record collector and a die-hard stoner
doom fan, and he also has the cool project Lachlann. I met Yair and
the previous musicians through ads for musicians wanted.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
This is a tough question, haha, but there's no doubt that Black
Sabbath, Acid King, Electric Wizard, and Monolord are in Yotam and
mine's top lists.
Yair doesn't listen to stoner and doom, but he likes Meshuggah, Dream Theater, and many other great bands in the progressive
and jazz styles.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Mostly gloomy weather and sometimes a bad mood, but
sometimes a cool riff can pop into my head out of nowhere, and
then I create a track from it.
6. Where was your last gig?
In the city of Kfar Saba near Tel Aviv, at a really cool place called
Babity Bar and it was the first time we ever performed there.
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
Desertfest London, Ripplefest, and across the US
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
With Lori from Acid King, I love her sound and writing.
9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
No, I'm always open to playing and collaborating with everyone, as
long as there's musical chemistry.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have
any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
Maybe in the first few shows, but not something I remember or
know about from Ya'ir, it feels pretty natural to play on stage. I do
recommend that anyone with stage fright drink a glass of arak
before the show and focus on the music itself and try to get into a
meditative trance.
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
Mainly Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard, Acid King, Tool, and
Yehuda Poliker.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Luckily, we haven't had anything like that ye,t haha
13. What do you think of your fans?
People are loyal and support us wholeheartedly, and some of them
even come to all our shows.
There is no doubt that the fans are the fuel that keeps our music
going!
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is really cool and interesting!
I visit it a lot and read about bands and new music.
Keep up the great work!
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Yes, rock and roll forever !!!
Thanks again.
