Interviews About Albums: Canvas Of Silence - As The World Tree Fell (2026)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Finnish Progressive Metal band Canvas Of Silence to ask questions about their album "As The World Tree Fell".
1. What can you say about this new CD?
Tatu: We released our debut album "As the World Tree Fell" on October 31, 2025. The album is an emotional journey through vivid contrasts of heavy and melodic, complex and catchy, alluring female vocals and energetic riffs, all entwined with symphonic elements. Listeners can expect intense atmospheres, proggy twists, and larger-than-life choruses.
2. What is the meaning of the CD name?
Tatu: The title ”As the World Tree Fell” ties the songs together lyrically. “Falling” is the keyword of the lyrics; the feeling of everything falling apart, be it in personal life or the world around you. And you are just someone who watches it from afar and cannot affect it, holding on to the edge for dear life.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD?
Tatu: I, rhythm guitarist Tatu Hanhikoski, am the songwriter of the band, but of course, each member colors the songs with their own shades.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Tatu: I’d first listen to the opening track of the album, ”Watching the World Tree Fall”, and continue from there. I would say that it sums up pretty well what the album has in store and what Canvas of Silence sounds like overall.
5. Is there a special message on this CD? If there is what it is?
Tatu: The songs on the album were very therapeutic for me when I wrote them, so I believe that listeners who are struggling with difficult situations in their lives can find comfort in them.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
Tatu: I would say that the first lines of the song "One With the Wind" are one of my favorites:
”As you read this I'm already gone
I've woven my shroud out of the beams of the dying sun
Tonight we will descend as one
Here I run”.
They create a nice atmosphere for the song.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
Tatu: Perhaps a bit corny to say, but life experiences. The best art comes from when things go really bad.
8. Something to add?
Tatu: We just released a new single, The Great Unknown (2026). Originally found on our debut album, this version showcases our new singer Aino Vuorenmaa's talents. With it you can find a music video, go check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVxBFYd0_ZM&list=RDcVxBFYd0_ZM&start_radio=1
