Interviews: Death Warmed Up
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band Death Warmed Up from England. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?
We were struggling to find a band name that suited our personality. One day, I (Charlie, Lead Guitarist) was watching the tv show One Foot In The Grave and heard the main character say the phrase, ‘I feel like Death Warmed Up’. I thought it sounded like quite a good name, and the rest of my bandmates liked it, so it stuck.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We never set out to play a certain genre; hard rock is just where we landed, really. Through our individual influences and how our first few originals sounded, that’s the genre we felt we fit into best.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Lewis (Rhythm Guitarist) and I (Charlie, Lead Guitarist) went to college together, that’s where we started writing music and realised we could form a band.
Romarno (Bassist) and I went to school together, we had been friends and in bands for years, when forming DWU, he was the first person I thought of to play bass and is the perfect fit.
Alex, we met through drummer auditions for the band.
Will (Lead Singer) and Romarno knew each other prior to joining the band.
We’ve all gelled very well since forming, and we quite rarely argue or fall out.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Charlie (Lead Guitarist) - Queen
Lewis (Rhythm Guitarist) - Sabaton
Alex (Drummer) - Motley Crue
Romarno (Bassist) - The Beatles
Will (Lead Singer) - Warren Zevon
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our songwriting process is generally quite simple; it usually begins with a guitar riff or progression that we like the sound of, or one of us writes the backbone of the song. Once the general idea is there, it becomes a collaborative process of adding things we like the sound of. The inspiration comes from the song itself and the vision we have in our heads; it’s the combination of those visions that pushes the song to completion.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was quite different; it was a livestream gig at the Hydrus Live studios in Essex. Our last proper gig was in Derby at the Victoria Inn; it was a great way to end our 2025 gigging season!
7. Where would you like to play?
Of course, it’s easy to say something crazy like Wembley Stadium or Madison Square Garden, but there are a few venues on our cards at the moment, like The Bodega Nottingham, KK’s Steel Mill and Rebellion Manchester. These are all the things we see as the next step up from the venues we are playing currently.
8. Who would you like to support?
Again, it’s easy to say somebody like Def Leppard. This is a similar situation to the previous question; we’d like to be supporting bands who are on the next level to us, like Asomvel and Jayler. We’d also love to play with our friends in StopStop, Paradise sins and Motley Crue again; we always have a blast playing with those guys.
9. Who not?
We don’t really have any objection to who we could play with. If they are nice people, can help bring a crowd to the venue and are similar in genre, we’d happily play with them.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Luckily, we didn’t really suffer too badly from stage fright. We usually have a few pre-gig nerves, but none of us has completely frozen due to stage fright.
For those first starting out, the best advice we can give is to be sure of what you’re playing, rehearse loads and practice your parts; that cures a lot of fear. Also, have some sort of ritual between your bandmates or yourself that puts you at ease and puts confidence into each other.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Def Leppard have always been the biggest joint inspiration for the five of us. Other notable inspirations are Whitesnake, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden and Ozzy Osbourne. The bands we have played with have also helped to inspire us, supporting artists such as StopStop have given us some inspiration for improving our live shows and audience participation.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A fan in Hastings once asked me to put a sticker on his wheelchair. We once got asked to play a 4+ hour set at an audience member's house party in Sheffield.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love our fans and are very thankful that they believe in 5 lads with a big dream. Most have become friends and are good people; they show up ready to sing, dance and chat after the show. Plus, they have the greatest music taste in the world.
14. What do you think of our site?
We are new to Breathing The Core; it comes highly recommended from Garry at SAN PR, so it must be pretty good. We like that you give small bands like us a chance to feature and help share our music. The website is full of interesting insights into the world of underground rock and metal, and we are very pleased to be featured.
15. Any final thoughts?
Go check out Death Warmed Up on all socials and get ready for the release of our next single, from our forthcoming debut album WILDCARD, Gods Of Rock And Roll.
