Interviews: The Groggy Dogs
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Celtic/Rock/Punk/Ska band The Groggy Dogs from Spain. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?
We knew from the start we wanted something related to grog, to keep that old-school Monkey
Island kind of fun and pirate humor. One day, I turned around and saw my dog completely
passed out on the sofa, looking super groggy. That was it. The name just clicked.
2. Where is the band based?
Seville, Spain.
3. Why did you want to play this genre?
We’ve always loved Celtic tunes and sea shanties, but we wanted to play them in a different,
more energetic way. Ska is also incredibly fun and danceable, so mixing both felt natural. Then
we added a hooligan, forceful punk sound on top. That’s basically the recipe.
4. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
More or less. Some of us are longtime friends, others had already played together in previous
bands and projects. So there was already chemistry when we started.
5. What is each band member’s favorite band?
Dropkick Murphys!
6. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Other bands, everyday life, what’s happening around us, and a lot of pirate imagery and
storytelling. Anything that makes us feel something strong usually ends up becoming a song.
7. Where was your last gig?
At the Kingdom of Elfia festival in the Netherlands.
8. Where would you like to play?
Everywhere. Any stage, any country, any port. We just want to bring the party wherever people
want to sing and jump with us.
9. Who would you like to share stages with?
It would be an honor to share the stage with bands like Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly,
and honestly, any of the legendary rock and punk bands that inspired us growing up.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Absolutely. We were terrified at our first big shows. But once you start playing and see people
smiling, everything changes. Our advice is simple: focus on having fun with your bandmates.
The crowd feels that energy. Even if you miss a few notes, people will remember the attitude
and the good time, not the mistakes.
11. Which bands/artists have inspired you the most?
Bands like Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Ska-P, classic ska like The Skatalites, and of
course, The Dubliners.
12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A fan asked us to autograph a wooden leg they used as a costume prop. That one was hard to
beat.
13. What do you think of your fans? How important are they to you?
They’re everything. We wouldn’t exist without them. From the very beginning, they’ve
supported us, sung our songs, and made every show feel like a party. Everything we do is for
them.
14. What do you think of our website?
It’s very complete and easy to navigate. We like how you support both big and underground
bands and give space to new music. Platforms like yours are really important for the scene
because they help people discover artists they might never find otherwise.
15. Anything to add? New music, gigs, etc.?
We’re releasing our new album “No Grog No Glory” on April 23rd. It’s faster, dancier, and even
more pirate ska punk than before. The first single, “One Last Toast,” drops on February 13th.
We’ve got plenty of shows and festivals coming up this year, so expect a lot of noise and a lot of
grog.
