Interviews: Pointless
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Pointless from Germany. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it come out like
that?
The previous project (already with the same drummer) was called “quick and pointless”,
inspired by the Queens of the Stone Age Song. When we reformed the new lineup, we had
to come up with a new name. Ali (who is from Turkey) joined us as the new bass player
and told us about the Turkish letter “ı” (i.e., an “i” without the dot/point). Combining both, we
came up with “poıntless" (clever right? :D)
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We all have quite different musical backgrounds, ranging from very heavy stuff like
Hardcore Punk and Grindcore to 90’s Grunge, Singer/Songwriter pop, and prog. Therefore, we had to meet somewhere in the middle as much as possible. The current style evolved
over the last two years by fusing our different musical ideas. We continue to struggle to
fit into a category or genre, though.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The (former) drummer/producer and I went to high school together and had been working
on band projects for some years before founding poıntless. We met the bass player over
the internet and the lead guitarist at a gig.
4. Each band member’s favourite band?
As we recently split up and I (AaronB, Singer/Songwriter) can only speak for myself, to me
it is System of a Down or Avenge Sevenfold as these are the bands that I listened to the
most and had the biggest impact on my musical journey.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The world around me. Especially inner conflicts and struggles within relationships with
others. These are the main topics in my songs.
6. Where was your last gig?
In an alternative community in Berlin called “Köpi”. As we split up, this was probably the
last gig in this line-up ever. However, wherever a door closes, a new one opens up.
7. Where would you like to perform?
Either the Uber Arena in Berlin or Madison Square Garden in New York would be
awesome to perform in one day.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
As I’ve been a huge fan of A7X for many years, I’d love to perform with Matt Shadows or
Synyster Gates one day. I’d also love to meet/perform with people like Dave Grohl, Josh
Homme, or even Paul McCartney.
9. Whom not?
I don’t have a general problem with people. However, I would not like to perform with
artists who call for violence or are very hateful. I’m opposed to cancel culture, though, and
try to stay out of short-lived internet outrage. Therefore, I will refrain from calling any
names.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat
that?
I have to some degree. I think it’s all about practice. Just go out and do it, and it’s gonna
get better every time. Also, the better you prepare beforehand, the more automated
everything becomes.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
As I said before, Avenged Sevenfold and System of a Down are the biggest ones for me.
However, there are many more, including Queens of the Stone Age, Billy Talent,
Rammstein, Radiohead, Gojira, and many more, that I draw inspiration from.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing weird, really. Many fans want to express their gratitude for the music in their own
way of communicating, and that’s always nice. However, once, a fan nit our logo on a pair
of underpants and threw it on the stage.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are the reason for continuing this project. It’s a very diverse group of people as they
differ in almost all aspects of life except for one thing they all have in common, which is
that they get the emotions and feelings that poıntless’ songs are trying to express. Every one of them is incredibly supportive and nice and contributes greatly to the project.
Love goes out to everyone in the pointless community! <3
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s great to see platforms that still focus on artists and music rather than pure numbers
and hype.
