Track By Tracks: Concrete - Absent Mortality (2026)
The first track on Absent Mortality is called “Eminent In Suffering”. It’s a pretty
straightforward song structure-wise. We felt it kind of clicked as an album
opener because of the sheer energy burst it carries. Given that and the intro to
it, I think it came out pretty well.
We chose “Midnight Demigod” to be the first single that would introduce
people to Absent Mortality after consulting with album producer Todor
Voynski. It was the first song of all nine that was written and rehearsed for that
album.
If I recall right, “Fruition Of Decadence” was the last song to be written and
rehearsed prior to the studio sessions. We even changed one of its riffs right
there in the studio, because something felt off with the original. I like how it
came out on the album.
I decided to revisit my writing lyrics about the undead for “Charnel Expulsion”.
It needed a dismal but catchy, meaty-sounding main ri,ff so I think we pretty
much nailed that part to fit with the idea. I really like that main opening riff.
We did a last-minute video for “Inversion Of Grace” compiled of previous live
performances and some lyric-driven shots. It’s a song about moral
inconsistencies and degradation in organized religion. This is the second single
from Absent Mortality.
“Eternity Renounced”. This song is the simplest in structure. I really wanted to
go straight-forward, so I could achieve a punchy and memorable result.
Nothing fancy, but something that would get into people’s heads right away. Peter
came up with the main riff, and it clicked well with the rest of the song’s
skeleton.
One of the topics I really enjoy writing about in my lyrics is H.P. Lovecraft’s
universe. The Necronomicon is one of the symbols that you can often catch
lurking in Concrete’s songs. Well, this album also has a small homage to the
author, and the song is fittingly called “Blood Upon the Necronomicon”.
For “Apex Butchery” we wanted to combine simpler riffs with these
“studdering” drum patterns. That combo really hit hard, so it became the main
riff to that song. All the other elements fit in with little to no hustle.
We put “Volatile Skin” as the album’s closing track because it felt like the most
suitable song to do the job. It has this mid-paced main riff that brings the rest
of the songs to a neat end.
