Interviews About Albums: The Darts - Halloween Love Songs (2026)
In this new interview, we sat down with the American Garage Punk Rock band The Darts to ask questions about their album "Halloween Love Songs".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
Nicole: Halloween Love Songs is a full album of songs
inspired by Halloween themes. Side A is monsters and traditional trick-or-treat garage rock fun, like the
Munsters but harder, and Side B delves into the darker, heavier side of things, like the late-night bonfire
on Devil’s Night during an apocalypse and the sadder, darker things that go on in our minds. We recorded
it in Los Angeles at Station House Studio, and I think it is our best work ever.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
Nicole: I tend to write songs about love, and bad romance,
and relationships that go wrong, because that is my life, and that is what draws out the most emotion in
me, I guess. So combining those themes with Halloween themes was really fun - vampires falling in love,
a trauma-bond “darkness” relationship, turning Halloween cliches into sexy double entendres, zombies
commuting to work and wishing they had better lives, ghosts haunting us in our dreams. The title perfectly
captured the themes, and also, I don’t know that anyone has really ever written a love song about
Halloween, let alone a whole album of them.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Nicole: I composed everything except “Midnight Creep,”
which grew from a song by bassist Lindsay Scarey. She gave the song to me without even knowing the
Halloween theme of the album, and gave me permission to mess around with it until we had a whole new
song and even a dance for the audience to do with us.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Nicole: Personally, I love “The Devil Made Me
Do It,” about trying to kick addiction and looking back at the embarrassing things that happened before
sobriety. I love the guitar tones and the riff, I love the message. But I think most people would choose
“Every Night Is Halloween,” which really does encapsulate the album well.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
Nicole: I guess the message overall is
that the dark side of our nature - whether it is silly imaginary monsters or the actual devilish thoughts in
our minds and hearts - are normal, interesting human parts of life that deserve to be explored. It’s ok to
be sad, to be angry, to be fighting something, to feel the darkness; we all do. We might as well sing about
it and dance like crazy while the world burns down around us.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
Nicole: From Blood Run Cold, about falling for a
vampire: “Your breath upon my lips / Can’t feel much anymore / Beautiful against the blackening clouds /
Tell me I am yours forever now.” That’s a powerful image for me. Maybe it will happen someday. I can
dream.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone
you'd love to thank especially?
Nicole: The most important person in my musical life besides the musicians
beside me on stage and in the studio is Ludo at Adrenalin Fix Music, my agent and manager. He
believes in my projects so deeply and stands behind them in every way possible, from booking huge tours
and releasing these albums for me, storing my merch and gear in Europe, strategizing with me, millions of
texts and plans together every day… without him, I can’t do any of this. With him, everything is possible.
8. Something to add?
Nicole: The Darts have a huge year of international touring ahead, starting March
26 in France and going to the USA, Europe, Japan, Australia, and the UK. Plus, my solo project Black Violett is
touring worldwide simultaneously with a new record. It is going to be a great year.
