Interviews About Albums: Dioivo - Que Soe o Trono (2026)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Spanish Black Metal/Melodic Black Metal/Thrash Metal/Melodic Thrash Metal band Dioivo to ask questions about their album "Que Soe o Trono".
1. What can you say about this new CD?
In this new album, we revisit the songs we made more than 10 years ago, before we became Dioivo. By that time, we were known as Rust in Peace, and we played thrash metal, so this is mainly a thrash metal album. We always wanted to record these songs properly, since Rust in Peace released just a couple of demos, so we got in touch with Darcy and Pablo, former members of the band, and we got down to work together. It was great to do it after all these years!
2. What is the meaning of the CD name?
"Que soe o trono" means something along the lines of "Let the thunder roar". It's the title of a song that used to be called "Bring the thunder", but since we've been 10 years exclusively singing in Galician for 10 years, we wanted to translate the songs from English to our language. And since "Bring the thunder" was kind of our signature song back in the day, we thought "Que soe o trono" would be great for the title of the album too. Also, Dioivo means "deluge" in Galician, and we always had kind of a meteorological theme in our lyrics and album names, so "Que soe o trono" was the perfect choice.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD?
All of the songs in this album were composed by Darcy, founding member and bass player of Rust in Peace. She left the band in late 2015, but she is the guest bass player in this new record, playing on all 10 tracks. It was amazing to work with her again. We have done some collabs from time to time, but we never got to record a full album with her. So it was like finally closing the circle. We hope to keep collaborating with her live, too!
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
We think the first song, "En nome de deus", is special for a number of reasons. Not only is it the longest song on the record, but also the most diverse and the one that sounds more like what we did as Dioivo after the Rust in Peace era came to an end. It's melodic yet brutal, with both clean parts and blast beats, a cool chorus, a guitar solo... It's one of Darcy's best works, definitely. We recorded a demo of it back in the day in 2015, but we have been waiting to record it more professionally ever since.
5. Is there a special message on this CD? If there is, what is it?
The lyrics were written when we were like 14 to 17 years old, so they reflect a good amount of our teenage angst, but some of the themes are also sadly kind of timeless. War, betrayal, ecological crisis, the right to die, religion, violence, nuclear weapons, death penalty... Stuff like that. It's an angry album. But it's also really special for us because we decided to dedicate it to a dear friend who died recently. So if we had to pick a single message, the most important one is that the album is dedicated to Samu. Na túa memoria, amigo!
6. Are there any lyrics that you'd love to share?
We usually prefer to let the music speak for itself, and we don't pay too much attention to the lyrics. But if we have to choose, maybe the most positive and hopeful ones are in the song "Volver comezar", meaning "To start again". It's about the need to change this world completely, destroy the old system, and make a new one. Check them out if you want and tell us what you think!
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
Musically, classic thrash metal has been the main influence, from big old names like Exodus or Slayer to more recent ones like Essence, Havok, or the more progressive Vektor, and also Galician bands like Mutant Squad. When we became Dioivo, we started to be more influenced by black metal bands like Ulver or Vintersorg, and even though this album is much more thrashy, some black metal influence is still out there. And of course this album wouldn't be possible without our friends, without the bands we play with, without the labels that released it... We mentioned most of them in the liner notes of the CD, but there are too many to do it here!
8. Something to add?
Thank you so much for this interview and for talking about Dioivo and Que Soe o Trono, it's much appreciated. Cheers!
