Interviews About Albums: Gluttony - Eulogy Of Blasphemy (2026)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Swedish Old School Death Metal band Gluttony to ask questions about their album "Eulogy Of Blasphemy".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
This is our best album to date: Strong and varied songs, dark and disturbing lyrics, and great sound.
We've been touring frequently since Drogulus (2023), and I think that has brought new energy into the band that can also be heard on this album.
It was also fun to finally pay tribute to King Diamond with a cover of Burn from The Eye.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
Ever since Black Sabbath, metal music has been put on trial by the narrow-minded for our lyrics and our appearance.
For a while, it looked like the world had become a more tolerant place, but now it feels like many countries are moving backwards.
It was simply time to exercise some freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Eulogy is a synonym for "Psalm" or "Hymn" and well, blasphemy is blasphemy.
A collection of Psalms of blasphemy felt like an appropriate title.
The cover features a zombie preacher vomiting forth an Eulogy To Blasphemy: blood and flies.
He stands outside an occult church with the Beelzebub seal on the window.
The cover is also a nod to the classic Black Sabbath album, and Håkan (the artist) spent a lot of time analyzing the aesthetics and color schemes of classic horror movie covers to get the right feel.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
As usual, the entire band contributes to writing the music, and when the music is ready enough, Anders or Magnus writes the lyrics.
We follow the same recipe as we've done for the last 10 years or so: Write and record one song per rehearsal and stop when the songs aren't good anymore.
That usually puts us at 10,11 tracks. We then book a listening session where we discuss the final changes for each song.
This generates version 2 of each song, and then when we record them, there are sometimes some minor adjustments, for example, to fit the lyrics better.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
I think Hung From Entrails is the best song of the album, but I want to highlight Immured By Rotting Corpses.
That was the first song we wrote for the album, and it has had quite the journey. When we first wrote it, we felt it was a total banger.
Then, after writing more songs, it felt like the weakest song. We re-arranged it and changed the chorus completely, and in the end, we were ok with it being on the album but agreed to put it last, before Burn.
After hearing the recording, we realized that it's one of our favorites and it will be the opening song of the upcoming tour.
There are several things I really like about the song: The brutal intro, which was unintentionally inspired by Krabathor's Orthodox, the Death-inspired part with the double pedals, and the vile lyrics.
I actually had to take breaks while I wrote the lyrics because they were too disgusting. The song is about a person who is buried in a mass grave and is struggling to escape.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
There is no overall theme to the album. We've done that before with Cult of the Unborn, which is a horror story told over 9 tracks, and Drogulus, which revolves around the universe created by H.P. Lovecraft.
The songs on Eulogy To Blasphemy are more of an amalgamation of all things Death Metal: Horror movies, zombies and gore, and criticism of organized religion.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
The lyrics of the title track are a metaphor for a metal show and the metal lifestyle. If you look at the chorus, I think it's pretty clear:
We shun the light of Christ. We walk the left-hand path.
Repugnant bastards - Sons of the grave.
This is our eulogy to blasphemy.
Perverted psalter carved into flesh.
Also, you should check out the lyrics to Threshold to Nonexistence which is about the French movie Martyrs.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
This album is the outcome of four guys who have played together for a long time and still enjoy it.
It's the inspiration from 30+ years of extreme music distilled into 12 tracks.
Since we started, Gluttony has been about paying tribute to the music we love and grew up with, but we are not just a retro-death band.
Over the years, we have created a unique sound: There is only one guitar, which makes the bass more important, and there are no solos.
Also, Magnus' vocals are extremely versatile, and there are plenty of dubs that Max and I use for backing vocals when we play live.
So the inspiration for the album, I would say, is the camaraderie in the band and with our global fanbase, who have supported us for over 17 years.
Our fans are very important to us, and we're truly excited to unleash our eulogy to blasphemy upon them and meet many of them once again on our European tour in May.
The album is out Friday, the 13th of March, on LP, CD, and digital through F.D.A. Records. See the tour plan attached.
