Interviews About Albums: Vanderlust - The Human Farm (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Italian Progressive Metal band Vanderlust to ask questions about their album "The Human Farm"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

This album represents the maturation of this band; we have found our own sonic identity and created a concept album that is a true journey. Personally, I consider it the best production I have ever made with a band.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

The title ‘The Human Farm’ represents what happens in the story: a group of humans is cared for and raised by a superior alien species, just as if they were farm animals. They are provided for in all their needs and enjoy a life of comfort and well-being, but like farm animals, at a certain point in their lives, they are captured and eliminated.

The title also carries an ironic and provocative undertone: when you think of a farm, you imagine something pleasant and harmless. In reality, this is a very dark story that tells of a profound existential dilemma.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

The songs are written by me (Francesco, the guitarist) and arranged together with the rest of the band. It’s a team effort where we all contribute our ideas, and I lead the process.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Viral Escape. It’s the track that best represents our style.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

In this story, the aim is to highlight a conflict that has always existed within human nature: on one hand, the need for protection; on the other, the desire for freedom. From the very beginning, the story portrays human society as divided between those who see the necessity of being cared for by someone superior and those who want to be free to shape their own destiny without asking for help. The history of human society has always reflected this: great empires and vast social structures are built, only to crumble because some within them experience them as oppressive. Every revolution is followed by a new dictatorship, and so on. The only thing that remains unchanged is human dissatisfaction. We are a very fickle species, constantly struggling to find a condition that truly makes us happy.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

they offer to take care of all our needs
A short but pleasant life, this is all we know
Follow them into this endless road
Some of us will stay, Some of us will go

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Our musical inspirations are diverse, but we could say the main ones are Angra, Iron Maiden, Rhapsody of Fire (especially for the vocal style), with an eye also on sci-fi technical thrash such as Vektor and Megadeth. We would like to thank the people who collaborated with us to bring this work to life: Giacomo Salani, Francesco Londino, Martina Barreca, Lorenzo Gestri, and, above all, everyone who will follow us and listen to our music.
