Interviews: Crimson Day

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band Crimson Day from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?

Ari: I came up with the word Crimson, and someone with the Day, and it has nothing to do with Avenged Sevenfold. It was an accident of birth.

Kämy: Like Ari said. But if I remember correctly, it was our singer who then came up with that "Day" word after it.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Ari: Because Heavy metal has the coolest guitar stuff and vocals, and it gives you the strength to push through everyday life.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Ari: Well, I did know Jyri Murto, the original rhythm guitarist. We played together in a rock band at the time. And one night after a Stone concert, he asked me if I would be interested in playing some leads on the heavy metal project that he was cooking up

Kämy: I didn't know anyone at first. I found an ad online looking for a bass player. At that time, our band was called "Speed Ink".

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Milka: Iron Maiden, Motörhead & AC/DC. The holy trinity for me.

Janne O.: Too many to name just one because I like so many different bands/artists and genres. To name a few: Dream Theater, Nightwish, Whitesnake, Motörhead, Amaranthe, Brother Firetribe, Gary Moore, and the list goes on and on and on forever…

Janne R.: My Chemical Romance, Bring Me the Horizon, Enter Shikari, Disco Ensemble, etc.

Kämy: Hanoi Rocks, Mötley Crüe, The 69 Eyes, Turmion Kätilöt

Ari: Judas Priest, Amorphis, Gary Moore, Testament, Megadeth, ZZ Top, Metallica, Iron Maiden

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Milka: For me, when writing the lyrics, it's always about real-life experiences, sometimes masked into something that fits better the Crimson Day lore. I'm into strong melodies, so if I have a catchy melody in my head, that has to become a song.

Janne O.: For me, it’s about processing emotions and experiences, as well as developing myself as a musician. Music and playing are areas where there is always something to learn. In addition to playing the drums, I’ve recently started writing lyrics again for the first time in years, and I’ve been trying to bring the little fragments of melodies that often spin around in my head out into the daylight. It’s great to see how small ideas can grow into a part of a song.

Janne R.: Strong feelings in life. The worse the feeling is, the better the riffs are gonna be. Or it could just be inspiration from other music or a new demo.

Kämy: - Ari: Bad coffee and bad drum machine, lyric-wise, my ideas come from books, movies, and life in general.

6. Where was your last gig?

Rockbaren / Belsepub, Gothenburg, Sweden

7. Where would you like to act?

Milka: Definitely Wacken Open Air.

Janne O.: Well, I guess any legendary metal festival. Or Wembley Stadium :)

Janne R.: First Tavastia, then the Wacken and Wembley

Kämy: NummiRock, Wacken

Ari: Tavastia, NummiRock

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Milka: Iron Maiden! And from Finnish bands playing with Stratovarius would be super cool.

Janne O.: Nightwish, Dream Theater, Stratovarius, and once again many more :)

Janne R.: MCR, BMTH, Enter Shikari, Apulanta

Kämy: There are too many of them

Ari: Amorphis, Judas Priest, Battle Beast

9. Whom not?

Milka: Justin Bieber

Janne R.: Volbeat

Kämy: all classical music bands :D … I don't know

Ari: Sabaton

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Janne O.: I guess I’m the one who usually gets most nervous before any gig. It’s almost impossible for me to stay still. I try to go through the set inside my head and visualise some parts of the set that feel the most difficult to me. Along with the physical warm-up (when I manage to do one), the mental warm-up is also important and helps. After the first song starts, all the stress and stage fright disappear. What helps: This might be a cliche but just believe in yourself that you can do it and go there and show them what you've got!

Milka: Not a super bad stage fright, but I'm always really, really nervous before each show, and my hands are shaking (that's why I could not become a pianist!). But I think a bit of nervousness is a good thing, and it means you're doing something that's important to you. And it always goes away after the first song!

Janne R.: No

Kämy: It's always a little nerve-wracking. But I think that's part of it. If you're not nervous, then you'll get so much out of it. A little nervousness is good.

Ari: No stage fright personally about playing, my fears are related to the technical issues.        How is the sound? Will the monitors last at the end of the gig…etc…

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Milka: Nightwish in the early days, later on Myrkur, Eluveitie & Seven Spires

Janne O.: Nightwish, Stratovarius, Children of Bodom, Dream Theater

Janne R.: Apulanta, MCR, Disco Ensemble

Kämy: Hanoi Rocks

Ari: This is a tough one, Metallica, Amorphis, Black Sabbath

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Milka: If I would like to sing in his band in exchange for some sexy leather clothes 😂

Janne O.: Maybe to sign their handbag/purse. Or asking me if I’m from Japan! (Honestly, not sure where that came from…)

Janne R.: To give my boxers to him

Kämy: My wristband. It's not strange, but the only thing that came to mind right now

Ari: Would you like some ice in your beer ?

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have a small but super dedicated fan base that comes to our every show and always reacts to our posts! We are so grateful for each and every one of them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's so great that you give visibility also to smaller bands, and there's a huge amount of content on the site. We truly appreciate all the work you do to help great metal music and bands gain more audience.

15. Something to add?

Thanks for the interview! Remember to listen to our new single as well as our upcoming fourth studio album, Dark Dimension! This is a new era for Crimson Day, and we are so excited about the release and can't wait to share the new music with all of you!
