Interviews: laCasta

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Blackened Hardcore band, laCasta, from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?

The name laCasta reflects our view of the world. We live in a system ruled by invisible hierarchies and structures of power where a few control everything. The name came quite naturally while we were discussing the concept behind the band. It perfectly represents our nihilistic attitude and the idea of a closed, oppressive system that dominates society.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Extreme music is the most honest way for us to express anger, frustration, and darkness. The fusion between crust, hardcore, and black metal allows us to channel that energy through violent riffs, dissonant structures, and oppressive atmospheres. It’s not just a genre choice — it’s the most natural language for what we want to communicate.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. laCasta was formed in 2013 in Puglia by four friends who already shared a passion for extreme music. The band was born from the desire to transform that shared energy into something more destructive and uncompromising.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Our influences are quite diverse but rooted in the extreme scene. Bands like Dark Funeral, Marduk, Wiegedood, and Mgła have definitely been important references for us, but also many other artists of the genre.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our inspiration comes from decay, power structures, human hypocrisy, and the darker aspects of existence. The themes often revolve around nihilism, death, corruption, and spiritual emptiness.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our latest shows have been around Italy, sharing stages with different bands from the extreme underground scene. Playing live is always a fundamental part of what we do.

7. Where would you like to play?

We would love to bring our music outside Italy, especially in countries where the extreme underground scene is very active — festivals and clubs across Europe would be the natural next step.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Collaborations with artists who share the same dark vision and intensity would definitely be interesting. We respect many musicians in the extreme metal and crust scenes.

9. Whom not?

We are not interested in collaborations that feel forced or purely commercial. Authenticity is everything for us.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

A bit of tension before going on stage is normal, but once the music starts, it disappears. The best advice is simple: rehearse a lot and focus on the energy you want to unleash rather than on the fear.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The black metal scene and the darker side of hardcore/crust have had a strong influence on our sound. The cold atmosphere of Scandinavian black metal combined with the aggression of crust punk helped shape our identity.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

So far, nothing too extreme. The underground scene always brings interesting encounters.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We deeply respect the people who support underground music. Without them, scenes like ours simply wouldn’t exist.

14. What do you think of our site?

Platforms that support independent and extreme bands are essential. We appreciate the space you give to underground music.

15. Something to add?

Our new album “OLIBANVM” will be released in 2026 through Argonauta Records. The concept revolves around the symbolism of frankincense — ancient, sacred, and born from ritualistic wounds. Just like the resin extracted from the Boswellia sacra, the music comes from pressure, violence, and transformation.

“Ancient as Egypt, Red as Blood, Precious as Gold.”
