Interviews: Suffer
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview again the Deathcore band Suffer from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. “Pendulum of Vengeance” marks the beginning of a new era for Suffer. What made this the right song to introduce the band’s next chapter?
It does indeed, our third lineup & chapter of the band and one we are very excited for! This song was chosen to be the first single for this lineup as we felt it strongly represented the direction in which we wanted to take the band when listening to the Demos we had. Having more structure to our songs, whilst continuing to showcase the groove & grit in our sound, we’ve developed over the years!
2. The track explores the human instinct for revenge and the endless cycle it creates. What inspired the theme behind the song?
The song was inspired by previous lyrics written by original vocalist Chibba and the direction I wish for my own lyrics. Suffer has always been a band that explores the more macabre side of human existence within their lyrics. Upon joining the band, I quickly grew attached to themes presented in songs such as ‘Rest in Hell’ and ‘Rotten’. Moving forward, I wanted to take that style, whilst taking the lyrics more into a non-fiction and relatable place. Replacing murderers with emotions and demons with real ones that people relate to. So I asked myself what human emotion can create the most adverse reactions...Revenge. So Pendulum of Vengeance is a song exploring the negative impact of something we all fraternise with. The concept of revenge is as old as civilisation itself, and something we have all either taken part in or thought of.
3. How did the writing process come together with the new lineup?
So far, writing with this lineup has been really productive. Klaudiusz brings a whole new flair & composure on Guitars alongside Kie & Coop, and has settled in really well, bringing along some great riffs and a solid work ethic and enthusiasm. The same goes for Greg; he works and does things differently from previous vocalists we’ve had, but he has been an excellent addition. Seeing him work in the studio for the first time and the passion to learn the set list in a short time has been really cool to see.
4. With Greg Hevican joining on vocals and Klaudiusz Trzebuniak on guitar, how has the dynamic within the band changed creatively?
I think the biggest change creatively is how focused everything is now. It feels like every individual has the exact same vision and is keen to move towards the next goals and push this as far as it can go. Writing, practising & recording haven’t felt this driven in some time, if at all!
5. After the departure of the founding members in 2024, there was a moment where the band had to decide whether to continue or call it a day. What ultimately pushed you toward reinventing Suffer instead of walking away?
It was certainly touch-and-go for a brief moment, especially for a couple of the remaining members. Not so much after the founding members had left, but after our second lineup had come in and hadn’t worked out in the short period it was active, it was close to being put to bed for good. But ultimately, taking time to breathe, considering every option and talking about things. We said we would rather try one more time and see what we could achieve with a new lineup, should we find members. And with how quickly Greg & Klaudisz learnt songs and settled in, we knew we had made the right decision!
6. The single was recorded at Firestorm Studios and later mixed and mastered by Will Cattanach at Freewill Productions. What was the recording process like for this track?
Recording is always a fun experience for us. Ant is great to work with and has recorded a lot of our music over the years, and also mixed & mastered some releases like the ‘Heavy Silence’ EP & ‘Rotten’ single. It’s always a good time, and his knowledge helps us really flesh out the tracks and bring them to life in ways we may not hear when writing or demoing. Will is also a very talented musician and mixing engineer, whom we have worked with on one previous song in 2024, and ultimately decided that he was the right fit for this song too. And again, working with Will is very easy, he knows what we want to achieve with our overall sound and always nails it very fast! Overall, a great experience all round, and we already can’t wait to hit the studio again very soon!
7. The official music video is premiering through Slam Worldwide. What can fans expect from the visual side of the song?
They can expect a fast-paced, sometimes chaotic video. With interesting visuals in between the shots of the band that are designed to represent the theme and vibe of the song. One thing we really wanted to make sure of with this song is that the Title, Music & Visuals all aligned. We feel this video represents the theme really well, and Chris at Brooker Films really brought this to life for us!
8. Over the years, Suffer have shared stages with some serious heavy hitters in the deathcore scene. Which bands have influenced your sound the most?
It’s difficult in a way to pinpoint certain bands, as all of our individual influences vary quite vastly! But when the band started, we were heavily influenced by bands like Traitors, Bodysnatcher & Black Tongue at the time. But of course, bands like Suicide Silence, Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder & Annotations of an Autopsy & Job for a Cowboy, to name a few, have all had a big influence on our music.
9. Fans of Whitechapel, I Declare War, and Bound in Fear will probably connect with your music. How would you describe the Suffer sound to someone discovering you for the first time?
It’s heavy, physical music that’s meant to hit hard and come alive in a live setting. We focus on crushing, down-tuned riffs, sudden tempo changes, and a vocal attack that pulls every ounce of aggression out of a room. At its core, it’s a blend of Deathcore, Beatdown, and Slam that delivers pure sonic violence.
10. Suffer has built a reputation for intense live performances. What should fans expect from the upcoming shows in the UK and Ireland?
They can expect exactly that! More intense performances, packed full of new & old songs with a whole new energy. We LOVE to have fun on stage, so expect to hear some comedic samples throughout the set too! A whole lot of fun is what we aim to deliver, but also make you pull a few faces of disgust, haha!
11. You already have another single scheduled for May and a new EP planned for August. How does “Pendulum of Vengeance” set the tone for what’s coming next?
11. It sets the tone perfectly for us! We feel this song is one of our best we’ve written and will release as a band to date, but it plays and fits perfectly into the vibe of the EP we’ve been putting together. It showcases what this EP is going to be about in a solid way!
12. With festival appearances and European touring ahead, what are you most excited about heading into 2026?
Probably performing our first open-air festival this year at a festival called ‘Deathfeast Open Air’ in Andernach, Germany! The middle of August in the sun in another country is a dream scenario for sure! And the lineup is incredible, featuring bands like ‘Revocation’, Signs of the Swarm’, ‘Internal Bleeding’ and a whole load more!
13. Looking back at the journey since forming in 2018, what has been the most important lesson the band has learned so far?
Compromise & Understanding each other for sure. It’s not about one person, it’s about the collective! Being able to try out each other’s ideas and discussing things is of massive importance. But overall, you’ve just got to have fun, whether you want music to be a career or a hobby, you’ve got to enjoy it!
14. What has the reaction been like from fans since announcing the new lineup and upcoming material?
It’s been great so far! Everyone around us, personally and as a band have been really supportive. The compliments from our recent live shows have been incredible, too! We can’t wait to see what people think of the new music!
15. Finally, what message would you like to send to listeners who are about to hear “Pendulum of Vengeance” for the first time?
Expect something heavy, intense, and unapologetic. A new chapter that pushes our sound into a darker, heavier territory than ever before. And if you like what you hear, stay locked in with us on our socials and streaming platforms; there’s a lot more coming!
