Interviews: Violent Omen
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal band Violent Omen from Ukraine. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?
Hello, everyone! Since I am a huge fan of German thrash metal, I used to listen to the band Deathrow a lot, and they had a song with that title. I really liked the phonetic pronunciation and meaning of that phrase. There were no other bands with that name, so we hit the jackpot!
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Because it's our favorite music and we know how to play it according to the canons of the genre, as well as how to make it even richer and more interesting than our idols. This genre is ideal for combining speed, heaviness, and complexity! Although we often use other genres in our music for variety!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We met the former guitarist and vocalist in 2008 while playing in another local band, Crucifix, after which we formed our new band, Violent Omen. We had known about Yuri Sinitsky for a couple of years before he joined the band, because he was already a legendary drummer who had recorded albums with Drudkh, Lucifugum, and Blood of Kingu. But we met him in person when we invited him to join the band in 2010.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Mine is Atheist, Yuria's is Morbid Angel, and Evgenia's is Helloween.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We are inspired by our lives, what is happening around us, and our favorite music, which subconsciously leaves its mark on our thinking. There is no single source, so everything together inspires us in a complex way. If we take the concept, our song lyrics have always been created from different historical events and personalities, and all these stories are very inspiring!
6. Where was your last gig?
If we're talking about me personally as part of Violent Omen, it was in March 2014 when we opened for the Danish legends Artillery. After me, the band played a couple more concerts until 2017. But in general, the last time drummer Yuri and I performed was a year ago with our other death metal band, Tria Prima.
7. Where would you like to act?
Like any band, we would like to perform at the biggest festivals in the world. I know there is a big festival in Mexico that attracts tens of thousands of people, so personally, I would probably want to perform there first. And then, of course, Hellfest, Brutal Assault, Wacken.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
I would very much like to perform with Atheist, Coroner, Iron Maiden, Raven, Morbid Angel, and Destruction.
9. Whom not?
There aren't any! We're ready to perform with anyone, even our enemies, if we have any, just to kick their asses right on stage!
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
That never happened to me. On the contrary, performing made me even wilder and more uninhibited, because I always felt the feedback from the fans. And it was like that from the very first concert in my life. I just went out there and put on a show! Maybe it was thanks to my favorite bands like Raven and Iron Maiden, whose videos I loved watching! My advice to newbies is to just get on stage, forget about everything else, and go wild on stage!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Personally, for me, it's Atheist, Raven, Iron Maiden, Dark Angel, Coroner, Type O Negative, and Celtic Frost.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
There were such jerks at concerts who, right during your performance, grabbed your legs on stage, shook you, and asked you to give them water! And they didn't care that you were playing on stage right then, they just needed fucking water!
13. What do you think of your fans?
If they are my fans, then I automatically perceive them more as friends. We have our own small fan base that has really supported us, almost since the band was founded, and for that, I have great respect for them!
14. What do you think of our site?
Thank you for supporting underground musicians like us, because if you don't have a big label or advertising agency, almost no one in the press is interested in you, so it's really cool that there are still sites like yours that can support us musicians in the media!
15. Something to add?
Our long-awaited fourth album will be released this spring! Don't miss this exciting event! Good luck, everyone!
