Interviews: Visions Of Terror
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Modern Metal band Visions Of Terror from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name Visions of Terror?
We considered several name options before settling on Visions Of Terror, as we found it to be particularly striking and versatile, allowing us to explore diverse themes in our writing without being confined to a single concept.
2. Was the band formed with a clear plan from the start, or did things come together more organically?
Our drummer issued a call for musicians, which brought numerous individuals together. We finalized our lineup through a rigorous tryout process, focusing on both exceptional talent and compatible personalities. It is essential to maintain a positive and enjoyable working dynamic.
3. What drew you to creating the kind of modern metal sound heard on The Dark Triad?
It's truly a blend of our collective tastes, as we sought to create the type of metal music that resonates with us. With a significant emphasis on vocal prowess and tight, aggressive rhythms and melodies.
4. Did the band members know each other before forming the group?
Before forming the band, we had some familiarity with each other. Josh and Spencer knew each other from attending social gatherings. Abe and Nick had previously tried to establish a musical project together and liked collaborating.
5. How did the dual lead vocal approach develop within the band?
That wasn’t planned, but we enjoyed the results. Nick and Josh had both previously fronted other bands. We decided to share the responsibility, but were so pleased with the outcome that it became a significant part of our sound.
6. What bands or artists influenced the sound of this EP the most?
Numerous artists influenced us, but we drew heavily from At the Gates, Sylosis, and Revocation for this particular effort. We aimed for a melodic yet heavy sound with energetic guitar parts.
7. What inspired the themes behind songs like “Phoenix Rising” and “Un-Heavenly”?
For phoenix, personal setbacks and disappointment, but also determination. Un-Heavenly was inspired by relationships that had ended poorly and couldn't actually be salvaged. It's a reflection of the regret and grief you might feel after that loss.
8. Can you walk us through the creative process for writing and recording The Dark Triad?
Our creative process typically begins with the music, which serves as the foundation for our collaborative brainstorming sessions. We choose a theme that aligns with the vibe/tone of the music. Each of us contributes to the lyrics, and we finalize the vocals during studio sessions. We’ve really enjoyed this workflow.
9. What was it like working with JT Ibanez on the “Phoenix Rising” music video?
Collaborating with JT was an exceptional experience, as he demonstrated a high level of professionalism. He provided valuable insights and expertise. Additionally, he was a gracious host and produced an outstanding video.
10. How did the artwork for The Dark Triad come together, and what does it represent?
We made time to develop a basic sketch of the concept on our whiteboard and sent it to our artist. The theme examines the shadow self and the darker dimensions of human nature.
11. What was it like working with Matt Schmidt on mixing and mastering the EP?
We had previously submitted a song to another mixing engineer, but were underwhelmed with the outcome. Matt was highly recommended by a trusted friend and fellow musician. Matt proved to be a lifesaver, and we immediately established a rapport with him. He is an exceptionally talented musician and mixing engineer, and a great person to work with.
12. What do you hope listeners take away from this release?
Our hope is for the audience to enjoy the songs and themes and to appreciate the musicianship. We also hope that the songs will strike a chord with them on some level, as they relate to people in general.
13. Where was your most recent live show?
The Northern Iowa Event Center in Mason City is a great place to play. Crowds are always enthusiastic.
14. Where would you most like to perform in the future?
Anywhere there are metal fans and the music is loud!
15. Which artist or band would you love to collaborate with someday?
Travis Brocket of Lituus is high on our list at the moment. Dude has killer pipes.
16. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?
In my opinion, stage fright affects anyone who performs. There isn't a particular technique for overcoming it. The more performances you give, the more confidence you'll gain.
17. What’s the strangest thing a fan has ever asked you?
I was asked by a fan if I was married, hahaha, and she then told my wife how lucky she was. I frequently remind my wife of this story.
18. What do your fans mean to you?
Our fans are extremely important to us, and their enthusiasm for the music gives us a profound sense of pride.
19. What do you think of Breathing The Core Zine?
It's great to see you highlighting underground artists and helping them gain recognition. We also appreciate the insightful analyses of the artworks. They provide a thorough understanding of the artists' objectives and the message they intend to communicate to their audience. Outstanding!
20. Is there anything else you'd like to add for readers and fans ahead of the release of The Dark Triad?
We invite you to explore our new music and share your thoughts with us. We value your feedback and look forward to performing for you soon!
