Interviews: Abandon Agony
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal band Abandon Agony from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?
The name came together quite naturally. We had been brainstorming band names for hours without coming up with anything that felt right. Then, during a rehearsal, our drummer Robin suggested “Abandon Agony,” and it immediately clicked with everyone. We all loved it right away, and that was it.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We’ve all been connected to metal in different ways for most of our lives. For some of us, it’s the music we grew up with, and for others, it’s about the challenge and intensity of the genre. Melodic death metal allows us to combine aggression, melody, and technicality in a way that keeps pushing us forward.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes. Some of us had played together in previous bands, so there was already a strong foundation. Others joined later, but we already had connections and knew we’d work well together. That chemistry has been important for building the band.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
It varies a lot between us, but bands like In Flames, Finntroll, and other classic Scandinavian metal acts have had a big impact on us individually.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Inspiration comes from different places. Musically, it’s about creating something powerful and meaningful, while lyrically it often reflects personal experiences, emotions, and broader themes. Much of the material on Endbringer was shaped by ideas of inner conflict, inevitability, and cycles of collapse and rebirth, both on a personal level and in a broader sense.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last shows were in Gothenburg, including Musikens Hus and the “Dödskarusellen” event.
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere. Playing outside Sweden is a big goal, and festivals like Wacken Open Air are definitely on the bucket list. Sweden Rock Festival has always been a dream for us, so getting the chance to play there this summer means a lot.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Bands like Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, and many others would be incredible to collaborate or share the stage with.
9. Whom not?
We’re pretty open-minded, but musically we’d probably stay within the metal scene. It’s all about finding the right fit.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Definitely. Stage fright is something most of us have experienced. The best advice is to just keep doing it; it gets easier over time. Supporting each other as a band, taking a deep breath before going on stage, and focusing on the music really helps.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Bands like In Flames, Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Finntroll, and various thrash and progressive acts have all shaped our sound in different ways.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We’ve had some interesting requests. Everything from signing a hairy chest to someone asking to lick a beard. You never really know what to expect.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans mean everything to us. They’re the reason we do this, both on stage and in the studio. The support we get drives us forward.
14. What do you think of our site?
We think it’s a great platform that highlights a wide range of bands and keeps people updated on what’s happening in the scene. We really appreciate being featured.
15. Something to add?
We’re really excited about everything coming up. Our debut album Endbringer is built around themes of inevitability, transformation, and rebirth, and it represents a big step forward for us as a band, both musically and lyrically. Thanks for the support and for having us
