Interviews: OnesteP

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Metal band OnesteP from Ukraine. Check out the interview and follow the band on their INSTAGRAM PROFILE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?

Eugene: The name came out of a brainstorming session. Back then, we just wanted something simple - easy to remember and pronounce. A lot has changed over the years, but OnesteP has kind of grown into a brand, deeply tied to the music we’ve made. So despite lineup changes and the evolution of our sound, we decided to keep it.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Taras: Because it’s exciting. And honestly, what we do now isn’t just one genre - it’s a mix of different styles. Sometimes chaotic, sometimes raw and expressive, but always rhythmic and groovy.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

With the current lineup, we all joined at different times, and none of us actually knew each other beforehand.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Brood: Spiritbox, In This Moment, Otep. But these days I wouldn’t say I have favorite bands - more like favorite tracks.

Taras: Pleymo, Tool, The Prodigy.

Eugene: Most of the bands I love bring something really unique to the table, so it’s hard to compare or pick just one. If I had to, probably Korn. But there are many more.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Brood: Life, always. It’s the biggest source of inspiration - whether you feel good or bad, every emotion comes from real-life situations

Eugene: For better or worse, the strongest ideas usually come from the darkest places. That’s just how it works for me.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was in Kyiv. Since our country is at war, we’re limited in terms of going abroad, so for now we mostly share our music online.

7. Where would you like to act?

Big festivals would be an amazing experience. For us, live shows aren’t just about having fun or reaching new audiences - they’re also about growing as musicians and learning something new every time. So yeah, we definitely want to play bigger stages.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Brood: As a vocalist, I’d love to collaborate with vocal giants like Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil or Amy Lee from Evanescence.

9. Whom not?

Anyone who supports or justifies russian aggression against Ukraine. We fundamentally avoid any business with those who don't respect our identity and right to choose how to live.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Brood: Yeah, that’s me. The funny thing is, I get nervous right before going on stage. But the moment I step out there, it all disappears - the music just takes over. My advice? It’s okay to be scared. If you’re scared, it means you care.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Brood: Evanescence, Flyleaf, Otep and Lacuna Coil have inspired me since I was a teenager, and nowadays I’m also really into Spiritbox.

Eugene: Like I said - Korn, for sure. Also Slipknot, Static-X, Rammstein, Mushroomhead, Ill Niño… and yeah, Evanescence and Lacuna Coil too.

Mark: Korn, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, Tool, Jinjer

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

After years in the underground scene, nothing really feels weird anymore. We’ve had people begging to get drunk with us, asking to crash at our place for a while, or wanting to know every tiny detail about how we produce our music.

13. What do you think of your fans?

It still surprises us sometimes how and where our music connects with people around the world. We’re super grateful to every listener and always excited to share new stuff with them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s great to have a place like this where you can always discover new music, bands, and news. We really respect what you’re doing and hope it pays off in every way.

15. Something to add?

Take care, and stay true to yourself.
