Interviews: Outshine
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Dark Alternative Metal band Outshine from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?
I actually don´t have a clue, but what I do know is that it has been around since the early 90s
and was probably something Jimmy picked up from somewhere, a song, a movie, or maybe just
because it sounded cool. Which it does.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I personally did not have that much influence or even knowledge of this type of genre until I
started working with Outshine, but then, when I got more into it, I started to adapt and get the
hang of it. It may seem slow and “easy,” but it is not. It is quite a complex feel, and it´s important
not to overplay or just focus on the beat itself, but rather what fits the mood of the song's
structure, lyrics, and tempo.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I have known Jimmy for years, we came from the same place in Sweden, and as musicians we
got to know each other quite early and have remained in contact ever since. Nick and Par, I got to
know you before I joined as a drummer when I acted in one of the earlier videos of Outshines.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
I know that Jimmy right now is really into Dead Soul, and I would imagine that Nick listens to
Descalier a lot and Par also. I myself love so many bands that it is hard to choose only one, but
at the moment I listen to Lex Legion, which is Mikkey Dee's new band featuring everyone from
King Diamond's “Them” era except King himself.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I guess politics mostly, but not in the sense of choosing sides or blaming anyone as the stupid
politicians do, but more of what's going on in the world that affects us common people and what
divides us, and those kinds of struggles in real life.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our latest gig was at The House in Halmstad, a beautiful summer city on the west coast of
Sweden.
7. Where would you like to act?
I can only act as myself, I can´t lie, and I don´t think that I could change myself enough for true
acting, but I do “act” in the storyline for Outshines music videos, so I guess I would say in one of
those, then.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Michael Caine
9. Whom not?
Denzel Washington.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Yes, I am a burnout survivor, so I struggle with stress, and my stress levels are way lower
now than before. I have terrible stage fright because when I get excited, my body does not know
the difference between danger and “good” things, so I go into fight or flight mode and have
terrible problems with this, sadly. I try to be very well prepared, stay hydrated, and take
medication for my upset stomach and stuff like that. Small rituals. I always have nasal spray and
omeprazole with me, I absolutely have to, I may not use it, but I have to have it with me. It feels
safer. What I once loved more than anything in life, to be on stage, has sadly now become more
of a “calling,” and I still do it and hope every time that someday that true loving feeling of being
on stage will return.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
That list is very long, but to narrow it down to what inspired me to pick up a pair of drumsticks for
the very first time, I have to say Metallica.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
To do her and her daughter..did I? A gentleman never tells..
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are fantastic, and many of them have become close friends. We may play dark and gloomy
songs, but when off stage, we like to socialize with our fans and hang out and have a drink or
two.
14. What do you think of our site?
I am glad to be featured on your site together with our band.
15. Something to add?
Thank you for this interview, and I hope that those who read can discover Outshine and enjoy
our music. Thanks, Rob Petersson, drummer in Outshine 20260403
