Behind The Tracks: Karahka - Temptations (Single) (2026)

Mikko (guitar): I was playing a Zakk Wylde-style riff during a soundcheck at one gig, because I really like heavy, palm-muted riffs. Later on, Jaan mentioned that he liked the riff, and inspired by that, I started coming up with something in a similar vein. I had probably already forgotten the original one, but Jaan threw some Wylde material in as a reference, and in my opinion, you can definitely hear Wylde’s spirit in the main riff. As a continuation of that, I came up with the basic structure for the chorus, which I think is both driving and heavy. We then started developing the song further in rehearsals, with Juuso adding his own leads and me creating my own verse melodies. Someone also came up with a slightly progressive-sounding part for the C-section. After adding the vocal melodies on top, the basic structure of the song started to come together.

Jaan (vocals, lyricist): While watching a series about Ed Gein, one thing stuck with me: his mother forbade him from seeing girls and told him instead to read the Bible and focus on searching for the truth. I also knew someone who, at one point, was a little too deep into recreational substances and constantly wrote about the deepest essence of truth. Another story came to mind as well — I had read about an extreme religious fanatic who had taken the word of the “library upstairs” a bit too literally and cut off his own right hand because it had tempted him. That’s where the lyrics originally came from, but Ari later reshaped them, and the direction became more socially conscious. It was easy to write lyrics on top of Mikko’s riff.

Ari (bass, producer): Like with our other songs, we worked through the different parts together in the rehearsal space, where the A-section under the vocals, the chorus modulation, and the C-section riff all came together collaboratively. The final melody and arrangement decisions were then made during the recording sessions
