Interviews About Albums: Frozen Sand - Fractals: A Light Among Shadows (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Italian Alternative Metal/Progressive Metal band Frozen Sand to ask questions about their album, "Fractals: A Light Among Shadows".

1. What can you say about "Fractals A Light among Shadows"?

It has been a massive work that, during the overall process, seemed to be almost never-ending, unachievable, unreachable… but after hundreds of pre-production drafts, continuous arrangements, and countless hours of recording sessions, our new little masterpiece has finally been released, and it is available on all digital platforms, as well as in physical form on our Bandcamp page.

2. What is the meaning of the album name?

The album "Fractals: A Light among Shadows" is actually the second and final part of our saga "Fractals", in continuity with our 2017 full-length "Fractals: A Shadow out of Lights". Among the many topics explored, it delves into the darkest and most recondite aspects of HUMAN DUALITY.

3. Which one is the composer of "Fractals A Light among Shadows"?

The 5 of us have written, composed, arranged, and recorded it, piece by piece, passage by passage, note by note.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

I think all 5 of us would give a different answer to this question. If I (Luke) have to pick one, I would say "Meet the Enemy".

5. Is there a special message in "Fractals A Light among Shadows"? If there is what it is?

As already anticipated, the album delves into the darkest and most recondite corners of human feelings, telling about the parallel stories of 12 characters coming from different places and time periods, but still linked together by similar feelings, experiences, and deeds. Therefore, it includes many different messages and shades of meaning, so that any listener can pick their own.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

All lyrics bear huge meanings and deep emotions. Here comes to my mind the chorus of "The Aftertaste", for the very fact that WE FINALLY MADE IT!!

"Lights go out, the curtains fall
Savor calm, after the storm
Lost for endless Time
But now I'm coming home"

7. Which inspirations have been important for "Fractals A Light among Shadows"? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

As far as the overall sound, "Fractals: A Light among Shadows" explores and takes inspiration from a variety musical genres and styles, with the most noticeable influences coming mainly from Djent, Alternative Metal, Prog Rock, and Power Metal, at times drawing inspiration from bands such as Periphery, TesseracT, Breaking Benjamin, Motionless in White, Karnivool, Protest the Hero and Dream Theater.
