Interviews: Get Through

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Alternative Rock artist Get Through from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name — you planned it, or it came out just like that?

At some point, I was trying some ideas and tried to see what resonated better with me. The name came out when I started working on this kind of song about three years ago, and it stuck.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Hard rock and alt-rock are the music that influenced me a lot. Growing up on Sabbath, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Ozzy, Mr Big and a lot of bands from NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) — and later Alter Bridge, Creed, Shinedown, and Mammoth — this is the language I instinctively speak when I write. It's the sound that made me want to play in the first place. When I sit down to make something honest, this is what comes out.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

GET THROUGH is my personal project atm that I hope will transform into full band experience pretty soon, but I work with people I've known and played with for a long time. They're long-time friends and musicians — there's already trust on the table, and that makes everything easier to enjoy and have fun.

4. Your favourite bands?

For me: Alter Bridge, Creed, Mammoth, Whitesnake, Extreme, Mr Big, Shinedown, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Ozzy.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Honestly, it's often a necessity — a way to express my inter world. It has a sort of therapeutic effect on me. Sometimes it might start as a challenge, like, I want to write this type of song. However, it turns out completely different :)

6. Where was your last gig?

Place Bell in Montreal — but with a Def Leppard tribute band. ;) GET THROUGH itself hasn't played live yet. Right now it's a studio project, but the live side is in the near future.

7. Where would you like to act?

Royal Albert Hall. Red Rocks. Budokan. The iconic rooms — the places where the bands I love made history. Even if it never happens, naming them keeps the bar high.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Myles Kennedy, Richie Kotzen, Mark Tremonti, Wolfgang Van Halen. Those players and singers I'd take any day — the kind of musicianship and feel I admire.

9. Whom not?

Honestly, there isn't anyone. Every artist has something I could learn from, even the ones I wouldn't expect to.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes — and honestly, I still get it. The nerves never fully leave, and I guess it adds some fuel to the performance

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

A wide mix, honestly. The hard rock classics —Mr.Big, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Ozzy — and the modern voices like Alter Bridge, Creed, Shinedown, and Mammoth. But also George Benson, Toto, Richie Kotzen — players and bands from completely different worlds. Any music I listen to teaches me something, and I try to incorporate the sound, feel and colours I like from my influences.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Honestly, nothing weird yet. The project is still young — I'm sure the strangest moments are still ahead. I'll save my best answer for the next interview.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Grateful and inspired by them. Every listen, every message means something — it makes the project real instead of just files on a hard drive. And when someone tells me what a song meant to them, what they were going through when they heard it, that pushes me back to the writing room. The exchange goes both ways.

14. What do you think of our site?

I love that you cover underground and independent rock. Sites like Breathing the Core are how this kind of music stays alive — championing artists who don't have major-label budgets and giving us a place to actually be heard. Real respect for the work you do.

15. Something to add?

Big thanks to Breathing the Core for the feature, and to anyone reading this who clicks through and gives "Brand New Start" a chance. There's more music coming from this same world — same honesty, same fight. If this one connects, stay close. We're just getting started.
