Interviews: Nova Riot
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Bubblegum Metal/Alternative Metal band Nova Riot from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?
Nova: We (Orion and I) have always loved things associated with outer space, and we wanted
to include something that also married our love for rebellion, so Nova Riot was born. Before
Nova Riot we had another project with a very celestial name, so it was definitely very intentional
in creating the name for this project.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Orion: Funny enough, we had tried our hand at a bunch of genres, anything from AAA to pop
punk. That said, our love for the horror genre kind of took hold, and we decided to go all in with a
heavier sound and darker vibe. Nova loves a good pit. She's not afraid of a high-energy crowd, and this music really allows us to be creative in ways that we weren't able to with the other types
of songs we were writing before.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Nova: Actually, yes, Orion and I had a project before this one, and Ares was our producer for
that project. At one point in time, we had all our bandmates quit for various life reasons and were
like, well, what do we do now? We had this heavier song we had been working on and decided
to take it into the studio and just roll with it, Ares also threw in his guitar skills and we had
recruited Matt Thompson from the legendary metal band King Diamond on the drums, Orion
handled rhythms and bass and it ended up really setting up the foundation for Nova Riot, We
realized that was definitely the right formula we had been looking for.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Nova Riot: Right now, it's our old friends in The Bunny The Bear, so be sure and check out our
debut single called “The Altar,” which features The Bunny The Bear, out on all platforms May
15th via Eclipse Records!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Orion: Life. I feel like music might be the safest form of artistic expression. Music is one of the
most powerful art forms I can think of. Music has the power to shape emotions, and that's
something that really inspires a person to create something magical!
6. Where was your last gig?
Nova: Orion and I played an acoustic show with Scotty Austin, formerly of Saving Abel, and a
few others at The Rail Club in Fort Worth, Texas. It was actually the same day we launched Nova
Riot with our first single Breaking Free. We spent the next few months building a brand when we
ended up getting our music in front of Chris Poland of Eclipse Records.
7. Where would you like to act?
Nova: We have our eyes set on heading overseas the first chance we get. Right now, with the
way things are going in the world, having the budget to take the show on the road might not be
as feasible as we would like so we will hit some places like The Bomb Factory.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Nova: Maria Brink of In This Moment would be super awesome!
9. Whom not?
Orion: Adam Lavine 100 percent lol. F that guy, am I right?
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Orion: Sure, I used to beat it with about 3 beers, but quickly realized that wasn't sustainable, so
now I just deal with it, and it usually subsides around the 3rd song. I really start feeling the groove, and the nerves calm down.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Nova: The Bunny The Bear, In This Moment, Evanessence are just a few! -Nova
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nova: Someone wanted us to write a breakup song, but not like the sad kind, one that was
more letting the significant other know they were breaking up with them. That actually inspired a
song that got shelved, but who knows, maybe it finds its way out into the world eventually lol.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Nova: We love them, we appreciate anyone who can relate to our art and the genuine emotions
we put into it. That said, at the end of the day, we create this art for us, but if just one person
connects with what we are doing, we cherish those folks with all our hearts!
14. What do you think of our site?
Nova: We think it's great! We really appreciate the attention to detail and the accessibility to
tons of information on all the best artists and entertainers out there!
