Album Descriptions: Sweetland - Pariah (2025)
Pariah is an exploration into the psyche of a mentally unwell shut-in whose only real connection to reality is the made-up stories that are easier to tell than the truth. AM is about being haunted by an indifferent AI. Pariah is about breaking free of a cycle of mistreatment of oneself. A Soul Buried in Sand tells the story of a man enthralled by a queen in white and gold, the colors of death and rebirth in my world, and No Hearse Can Keep Us Apart is... well, that one is for the listener to figure out. It was very important for me that the whole EP have a cohesive sonic signature. Visually, the cover to me feels like an organic but unnatural fungus consuming all life. The color purple is of great significance in this record for reasons I can't quite explain. Further Sweetland releases will go deeper into the meaning of the colors and themes I reference frequently.
