Interviews About Albums: Heavenfall - Thorn (2026)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Italian Heavy Metal band Havenfall to ask questions about their album, "Thorn".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
"Thorn" marks a new era for Heavenfall; it's a mature, personal, and multifaceted work where introspection and heaviness merge.
We worked hard on every aspect, from songwriting to lyrics, to arrangements, to recording, and artwork.
It is a dense and cathartic pilgrimage through the depths of the human soul, an immersive introspection driven by melancholy and self-discovery.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
The name "Thorn" represents the harsh part of life, a splinter that leaves a scar inside ourselves.
Yet it carries a poetic and delicate suggestion that counterbalances the asperity of the human experience.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Dest (vocals) and Pave (guitar) are the main composers, but also Giò's (guitar) contribution has been crucial songwriting-wise.
The entire process of arrangement took place by rehearsing a lot, and the whole band was involved.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
"No Candlelight" is probably the best choice to show how the two souls of "Thorn" intertwine.
Introspection and aggression find their balance here.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
The booklet contains Anne Brontƫ's quote: "He that dares not grasp the thorn should never crave the rose" to symbolise the need for life's harshness to reach self-awareness and completeness.
This is what this album is about: melancholy and sorrow act as a means to reach the deepest part of ourselves.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
All the lyrics are very important and significant; it's really impossible to choose one above the others.
Nonetheless, a line from "No Candlelight" is particularly worthy to be quoted even out of context: "We never leave to roam, we leave to find a home".
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
The greatest source of inspiration was life itself; writing this album was cathartic in many ways and really unleashed our desire to explore and find our true sound.
8. Something to add?
We want to thank you for having us, and we hope that everyone who enjoys "Thorn" can feel it as part of their journey.
Please reach out to us and let us know what you think about "Thorn".
