Interviews: Mudd·shovel

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock band Mud·shovel from Ireland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it come out just like that?

The name came from two meanings "mudd" which means someone with a bad reputation, highly unpopular, and unattractive, and "shovel" humankind's simplest tool!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Heavy Alt Rock is in our DNA; it's what we love to play.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Garreth and David played together in different bands. I'm very much a "blow in" to Cavan, I've only been here 22 years!

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Garreth is a massive Deftones fan, David is a massive AC/DC fan, and I love pretty much anything Chris Cornell released.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Most of our songs come from jamming. We start out with an idea and mess with it till it works. We like to have the songs written by playing them live before we hit the studio.

6. Where was your last gig?

Daly's in Cavan, it was a great night with the Spent Priests, it inspired us to work on more of our songs, something we are doing at the moment, stay tuned....

7. Where would you like to act?

Good question! Someplace warm would be nice!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I think being on the bill with Muse would be a total trip!

9. Whom not?

I don't see any country gigs in our future; we're not against country music, it's just not our thing.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Of course! I'm nervous pretty much the whole gig, probably because there's a lot of tap dancing when playing mudd•shovel music; it's pretty involved at times. I try not to worry about it too much; if anything, it keeps me hyper-focused.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I'm a big fan of CCR, Jack White and Chris Cornell of course. I love rock songs you can play years later and still get excited hearing them again.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Playing a song as perfectly as the album, not gonna happen, it's live music!

13. What do you think of your fans?

I think our fans really want a good night out with rock tunes to get the blood pumping, nothing too serious, just great craic (fun).

14. What do you think of our site?

Love it! It's easy to navigate and is updated frequently. I can't wait to be on the title page!

15. Something to add?

We are looking forward to our upcoming re-release and getting back in the studio with our new songs. It's gonna be a great year!
