Behind The Artworks: Noisext - S/T (2026)
The artwork embraces a distinctly '90s aesthetic. The name of Genoa's noise-rock outfit dominates the cover in a bold, clean typeface, standing front and center. Noisext are shouting their name straight into the world's face: they know they're different, and they want to be recognized.
Following the band's request to pay tribute to the visual language of their musical heroes, graphic designer Sara Twinn chose stark white lettering on a black background for the CD edition. For the vinyl, at least for the first limited pressing of 100 copies, the concept is almost completely inverted: the lettering is filled with grey nail imagery, the very same nails that loom ominously across the CD back cover as though revealed by an X-ray.
Why nails? Take a look at the back cover of Unsane's debut album and you'll understand the visual reference.
Children of the '90s, Noisext approach graphic design the same way the emerging hip-hop scene approached sampling during that decade: stealing from the past to create something new through a deliberate sense of déjà vu. That spirit of quotation lives in the handmade lettering used for the track titles, with a nod to the beloved Cop Shoot Cop, while the vinyl center labels instantly recall the legendary Amphetamine Reptile aesthetic.
