Behind The Scenes: Truent - Vilemaker (Official Video)
For the “Vilemaker” music video, we took complete creative control and self-produced the entire project.
Initially, we weren’t entirely sure about the concept. We simply wanted a cool performance video, but not the typical band-in-a-room setup.
We searched for locations and eventually found an abandoned office floor in the building where Truent rehearses. At night, the space took on a strange, unsettling vibe, reminiscent of the Backrooms. This setting sparked the concept’s development. The release of the Backrooms movie around that time also influenced our direction.
We embraced unusual colours, unconventional angles, empty spaces, and slightly off-kilter shots. Our goal was to create a performance video that felt like it existed in a world that felt familiar, but didn’t feel quite right
Initially, we planned to film during the day, but the floor’s numerous windows and natural light completely ruined the vibe. So we waited until night, hauled all our gear upstairs, and shot from 6 p.m. until 3 a.m.
The most challenging aspect was the tight turnaround. Due to scheduling conflicts and unfortunate timing, my partner, Sav Bagshaw, who also works as Paradox Visuals, and I had only a week and a half to edit and finish the video in time for the single release and premiere with Decibel Magazine. We had to pull all-nighters to make it happen.
Despite the chaos, I believe it actually enhanced the video. The time crunch, the unusual location, and the constant improvisation all contributed to an energy that perfectly complements the unsettling and evil vibe of the song.
