Behind The Tracks: Dead Defined - One Life (Single) (2026)

"One Life" was born from something I think many of us have experienced but don't always talk about. Over the past few years, I've watched too many people silently battle depression, anxiety, and hopelessness. I've lost people I knew, seen friends struggle behind closed doors, and realized just how often we assume someone is okay simply because they never say otherwise.

As men, especially, we're often taught to keep our emotions buried, to deal with things on our own, and to see vulnerability as weakness. The reality couldn't be further from the truth. Some of the strongest people I've ever known were carrying the heaviest burdens, and many of them did it without anyone realizing.

When I sat down to write "One Life," I didn't want to write another song about darkness. There are enough reminders that life can be difficult. Instead, I wanted to write something that offered hope. A song that acknowledged the struggle but also reminded people that no matter how lost they feel, there is still a reason to keep going.

The title itself says everything. We only get one life. That life isn't defined by our worst days, our mistakes, or the voices telling us we're not enough. Every person has value, every story matters, and every tomorrow brings the possibility of something better.

Musically, I wanted the song to reflect that message. It still carries the powerful guitars and emotional energy that listeners expect from Dead Defined, but this time the focus was on lifting people up rather than dwelling on pain. I wanted listeners to leave the song feeling stronger than they did before they pressed play.
As an independent artist, bringing a song like this to life is a long journey. From writing and recording to production, artwork, promotion, and everything in between, every step has been driven by one goal: to create something genuine that might make a difference in someone's life. If "One Life" encourages even one person to reach out for help, check in on a friend, or simply choose to keep going one more day, then everything that went into creating it has been worth it.

More than anything, I hope this song starts conversations. Mental health shouldn't be something we only discuss after tragedy strikes. If "One Life" reminds someone that they're not alone, that their life matters, and that there is always hope, then it's already accomplished everything I set out for it to do.
