Interviews About Albums: Built For The Future - 2084 Empire (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Progressive Rock band Built For The Future to ask questions about their album, "2084 Empire".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

It is part two of our Orwellian saga that we began with the last album, 2084 HERETIC. This one includes the epic OCEANIA, a 26-minute suite reflecting on the several ministries in the novel. It's a textured, dark, melodic, cinematic experience.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Well, 1984 is far gone now. And we wanted to focus on this story if it were still ahead of us. So naturally 2084. The idea was a trilogy, Heretic/Empire/Oceania. We did the trilogy, just put the last two together as a double album.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

I write most of the music, but over the years Kenny has really evolved in us using his writing as well. So on this album he wrote 2 songs, and almost every songs lyrics and vocal melodies. He writes leads and adds layers to the music I write and play. We consider most everything on this album a co-write.

4. If you have to pick one song, which one would you pick? Well, what day is it?

That changes every few days!! TODAY I will pick AIRSTRIP ONE, as it is epic, melodic, and sums up the album rather well.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

Well, it's a retelling of Orwells’ message. BEWARE the future if we don’t pay attention. I said future, right? Because it's also very, very timely. That Orwell guy was pretty clever!

6. Are there some lyrics that you´d love to share?

One by One by One by One by One.

7. Which inspirations haven been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thanks specially?

Well, the source material was very, very inspiring. Once I decided to look at the 1984 novel/movie, I watched all versions of the movie and took notes. And then I researched it and added tons of phrases and themes from the story. I was deeply invested and wrote about 30 song ideas...I was fired up. And honestly, the other element that was inspiring was the fact that our current world is not too…far…removed…from this ‘fictitious tale’.

8. Something to add?

Thank you for being interested. We are very proud of all our albums, but this one is really hitting the mark for us. The texture and vibe just land where we wanted it to. And all this melancholy flavors the melodies. So hope you enjoy it.
