Interviews About Albums: Dying Reverie - Embrace Of The Black Water (2026)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Finnish Melodic Death Metal band Dying Reverie to ask questions about their album, "Embrace Of The Black Water".
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
Toumas: This is our debut full-length album. First of all, we have only released one EP last year. This was a real struggle to finish; there were many unexpected twists and turns along the way, and many that could have been avoided, but finally it is finished, and we are really happy with it. Isn't this life always a learning journey?
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
Toumas: In my opinion, the album title *Embrace of the Black Water* perfectly captures the state of mind in which the lyrics for this album were written. It is dark, yet at the same time, you just want to drift off to sleep in its embrace.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Toumas: Jimi and Henkka are responsible for the main composition, with the others providing heavy fire support.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Jimi: Kharon, my own life threw me a lot of bull shit and a lot of feelings of failure, anger, self-pity, and that kind of thing were poured into the song, and then when the words came to us for the first time to read, they described my own situation and bad feelings better than I could have said myself.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?
Toumas: The lyrics of the entire album, except for Lamentation, are written about my own very eventful life. Maybe this was also some kind of spiritual confession or therapy session for me, who knows.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
Toumas: All lyrics will be available on physical CDs and later also online for everyone to read. But here is a little snippet from the song Ready or Not:
Losing this war that I have waged on myself.
What happens when my time finally runs out?
You said ''you can't stop the flowing sands
The world doens't care if you're ready or not''.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?
Jimi: Here are new songs and old riffs dug out of a shoebox, a life lived, and a picture of the times. The joys and sorrows of life, those happy things don't seem to be heard on the album, and in the end, is life anything but paying taxes and fucking headaches?
8. Something to add?
Listen to music and go to gigs, people, that's the only way you'll feel alive, or not.
